BigBrother9ja: What about people voting to disgrace the current government for their failure. Tinubu cannot be president of this country, get that fact into your tick skull. I am even perceiving Tinubu as a northerners' game to repay South West with a yaradua/jonathan ticket in 2007 in which the president die so that the vice can take over. If not, why didn't they choose Osinbajo as their flag bearer, a whole vice president cannot win his party primary. Let me tell you this and go and mark it down, the 2023 presidential poll will be a repudiation of Buhari failure as a president to prevail on the current national issues. |

A Labour party is potentially the best type of party for Nigeria. It is evocative of being naturally the Peoples party instead of a platform for ethnic posturing and positioning because the masses in a democracy are exploited workers. In order words, whether you're Muslim, Christian, Isoko, Ijaw or Kanuri; male or female, in a democracy you have your labour in common. A Labor party, in the context of Nigeria, can coutch itself in the cloak of the Revolutionary new thing in the political system, the evolution of our young democracy. Peter Obi did the smart thing, decamping to this party. As a big name, he has the opportunity to mold the party. It can be the best thing that happens to Nigeria. But I'm writing from the position of ignorance when it comes to the history of Nigeria's political parties. |

pacespot: I certainly agree with the part in bold. Buhari has been allowed to get away with so much, because of the absence of checks and balances in our excessively powerful Presidential system, to the extent that one man's whims, dogmatism and caprices has caused Nigeria extreme division, pain and lives. I still grimace, as a former Buhari fan, when I read his dismissal of restructuring below. How can one man be so callously and insensitively dismissive of what many brilliant experts and analysts, the world over, agree is unavoidably the only way out for Nigeria? This is why I can never consider 'more of the same' Atiku or Kwankwaso because neither will ever talk of decentralised democracy (Tinubu) or State policing and restructuring. Atiku and Kwankwaso will tout more gradualism and centrist conservatism yet reject all ideas that give more power to the other tiers of government than what we have today where the centre, controlled by the President, is so inordinately powerful and uncheckable that Nigeria could literally be obliterated if a Hitler or Putin type became our President. Obi, arguably, may have good intentions but he just does not have the structure or support , in labour Party or his Igbo ethnic group, to win and then go on to be effective or to stand up against the very powerful enemies of Nigeria's progress when they fight back against any good thing he wishes to do. When push comes to shove, there is nothing in Obi's history to show he has the bravery, self-belief and sagacity to fight the unimaginably scary enemies of Nigeria who can burn whole communities of many thousands of Nigerians to the ground for their own singular and personal agendas. For context, OBJ impeached Obi easily even when the later was on his knees begging yet same OBJ never bettered the unbowed Tinubu who, over many years, showed he had the range of skills and ability to battle a sitting President and win against him all for the sake of delivering for his Lagos and SW constituencies. Things are not as simple as most Nigerians View it and we cannot afford a lame duck President, like GEJ, only there for window dressing but unable to bully through the policies and directive needed to transform Nigeria for the better for all her citizens from North to South and East to West. It is still incredible to me how one man, i.e Buhari, can be so out of tune with the needs of more than 230 million people and he is then indulged by all our institutions and checks-and-balances apparatus to get his way. For all Tinubu's fault you will never get a Malami from him as AGF when the likes of Falana, Akeredolu and Agbakoba are alive and practising. You will never get an FFK as governor of Lagos instead of Fashola and you will certainly never get a Pantami as ICT Minister ahead of the many brilliant IT and tech Gurus , with amazing international standards exposure, Nigeria parades. All in all, Nigerians must choose with their heads and not with their hearts. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2021/06/those-calling-for-restructuring-naive-dangerous-says-buhari/amp/

candidtalk: Yes, I agree with most of what you said up there but the caveat is that Tinubu of those days has long passed his prime. Let us just stop judging the present based on the past, i know that there are elements of alignment between the present and the past, but things are changing incredibly fast in today's world. Peter Obi of today is more groomed and a self assured politician than the Peter Obi bullied by Obasanjo in those days. Tinubu is a man on the tail end of his life but just wants to greedily become president as the only thing he has not achieved in politics. How about we think of it this way that the northerners are rooting for Tinubu just for them to take the power back once the man is incapacitated to continue in the office. Remember the yar'adua and Jonathan, the northerners have not forgotten this game played with them by Obasanjo which effectively shortened the term of a northern president and culminated in a southerner (jonathan) taking over from yar'adua after his death, they might be looking to play the same game with the south using Tinubu. Tinubu is not fit for the job, only greed is driving his ambition. I might have supported a younger Tinubu but never this one. And Peter Obi is not a pushover politician as you might want to think of him, having the courage to leave PDP for LP while pursuing presidency shows that the man has a ball. Some people said he should have fought dirty in PDP, but they forget that Osinbajo as a vice president could not emerge as a flag bearer in APC despite being loyal to Buhari. |
