Think of Backlinks as from a website to another website usually, the receiving end is also called "income links" or "inbound links," while if you're linking to other sites it would be referred to as "external links" or "outbound links".When a page receives a backlink, it's essentially another website vouching for the content on the page. And the more "votes," you get from credible sources, the higher the trust and hence more traffic.
