To ensure that your  broilers that you are raising have the lowest

 mortality, good food conversion ratio (FCR), and highest profit.

 You have to follow a good feeding schedule and techniques.


1)Quantity of Feed

You see, broiler production is ‘what you sow you will reap business ‘

As a general rule, it takes about 2kg of feed to produce 1kg of

 flesh in broilers.

Therefore, the quantity of feed to supply depends majorly on

 your target weight and the age you want to sell or slaughter the birds.


2)For a broiler farmer that intends to sell his stock at 2kg body

 weight at 6 weeks and 6weeks of age, the farmer must be ready

 to feed the bird 4Kg - 4.5kg of feed per bird is, while for farmers

COST OF RAISING A TURKEY POULT IN NIGERIA

How much feed are you going to need for your turkeys? Actually, the answer depends on the kind of turkey you raise and how big you want them to get!
Follow us on.

A broad breasted turkey will eat 29kg of feed by 16 weeks and 46kg of feed by 20 weeks. A heritage breed turkey will eat 33kg of feed by 28 weeks.

Broad breasted Toms will consume 29kg at 16 weeks while hens will consume 21kg.

If you want your turkeys to grow to a larger size, that’s completely doable with more time and feed.

By 14 weeks toms are eating 30% more than hens and by 20 weeks toms are eating more than twice as much as hens!

If these turkeys are getting 50% of their diet from pasture, they are actually eating 0.42kg of food per day, with only O.28kg of that food being the turkey feed you gave them.

It is important to note, that free range turkeys would be able to get some of their daily energy requirements from grass, but that means less of the high energy feed eaten per day so slower growth.

Do not feed chicken feed to turkeys
It may be tempting to feed your turkey poults broiler feed or an all flock feed instead of the more expensive turkey feeds, don’t!

Turkeys need to have the higher protein (and more expensive) feeds to grow correctly.

You must give them the high energy feed they require or you’ll soon see some pretty serious problems with your turkeys, like death (not joking)!

Once they start to get stressed (the wrong feed will cause stress) they will not easily recover.

Keep your turkeys growing well, healthy and happy by feeding them the high quality high protein feed that they need.

The good news is that once your turkeys are grown, they need the same feed as everybody else. An all flock formulated feed will be great for mature turkeys!

It’s when they are growing that they need the higher test feed, once they are adults they are pretty easy keepers.

CAUSES OF UNEVEN GROWTH  IN BROILERS

1. Brooding, poor brooding practices affect the growth of broilers

It Is good to observe the right brooding practices as this will

 help the birds to grow well and uniformly

Brooding will maximize the growth of the birds from day old.


2. Lighting, there should be even distribution of light across the

 Pen, broilers and other poultry birds will not eat if there is no

 light


And when there is light supply, it should be evenly distributed

 not that some will have access to light while others will not

 have access and this will cause poor growth in those that have

 insufficient light.

3. Don't allow water to spill on the litters as this may cause cold

 to the birds and they will not be able to eat


4. The poultry house should be heated when there is cold

When the birds are stable they will be able to eat well and

 convert the feed to flesh


5. Inadequate feeding, if the birds are not fed well and you don't

 have enough feed to go round

Some will have access to the feed while others will lack for to

 eat and they will not grow as others.


6. Separate the female birds from the males

The male birds eat more and are more stronger than the female

 when feeding them together

 ones and feed them separately

UNDERSTANDING COMMON PROBLEMS WITH LAYERS


You need to know the problems with laying hens, especially if

 you want to raise layer chickens for eggs production.For good

 health and better production, your laying hens require proper

 nutrition, fresh and clean water, well ventilated clean housing

 and absolutely good protection from all types of harmful predators.


Usually various types of problems occur with your laying hens

 because of diseases, stress and most importantly for flock

 mismanagement.


               Problems With Laying Hens

Many of the problems with laying hens can be alleviated

 through some easy steps such as changing their lifestyle or

 diet. Some problems require medication and treatments as

 prescribed by veterinarian..

 
If any problems with your laying hens isn’t solved, then

 consider to retire a laying hen and find a replacement.Thus you

 can keep your flock free from all types of problems.
 

                            Egg Drop Syndrome


Intermitent diarrhea is one of the first sighs of egg drop

 syndrome. A hen affected by egg drop syndrome may seem

 tired or listless. Egg production of laying hens get reduced and

 they lay eggs with thin shells which break easily.


Sometimes the laying hen can stop laying eggs for a certain

 period. It is thought that, egg drop syndrome transfer from one

 hen to another hen through the contaminated vaccine.


•                                  Egg Eating

Egg eating is one of the major problems with laying hens. And it

 must be addressed as soon as possible. If you don’t fix this

 problem quickly, then you will lose seriously soon.


It’s slightly different from the eggs disappearing from the nest.

 There are many reasons of eggs disappearing from your nest. If

 eggs disappear, snakes or other predators might stealing them.

 But egg eating by the laying hens is different. It occurs when

 your hens taste the contents of a broken egg. Once tasted the

 taste of an egg of your laying hen, they will continue to eat their

 own eggs.And it’s very tough to break  this habit once started.

 So it’s very important to prevent your hens from eating their

 own eggs. Remove fresh eggs from the nesting boxes quickly

 and prevent accidental breakage by fencing off hen yards and

 safeguarding nesting boxes.


                                        Molting


Feather losing and new feather producing process is known as

 molting. Laying hens usually stop producing eggs during their

 molting period.

 Some chickens start molting at their 4 months of

 age and some chickens don’t molt until they reach at least one

 year of age.

Depending on the breeds, molting process can take few weeks

 even months. Once your hens complete their molting cycle,

 they will start laying eggs again.


                              Stops Laying Eggs


Your laying hens can stop laying eggs for numerous reasons.

 Your laying hens need about 14 to 16 hours of lighting period

 daily for producing eggs highly. Along with the sunlight, use

 artificial lighting.

You can use a 40 watt bulb for every 100 square flooring

 space. Doing this will encourage them to lay eggs again.

HOW TO CURE GREENISH POO IN BROILERS AND LAYERS

STEP 1:

Find the cause

Greenish poultry droppings could mean a number of things.

Aside from the fact that it is a sign of disease in birds, it also

 has other causes, it could be a sign that your birds are being

 underfed.


Also, Birds that feed on local food such as vegetables, leaves,

 or seeds also have green coloured droppings.

But if you are confident that your birds are not underfed and

 have not been consuming any green vegetables or the likes,

 then the most likely cause is a disease.


There are actually two diseases that are their signs and

 symptoms include greenish poo.

Those diseases are New Castle disease and Fowl Cholera, both

 diseases which however are nothing to joke about.


To determine which one of these diseases is the most likely

 culprit you'll have to examine the symptoms of each disease

 and identify which disease symptoms are the most consistent

 with your birds.


STEP 2

Recognize the causative disease

Here are signs of each of the diseases so you can immediately

 tell which one is affecting your birds and take action.

3. Circling

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW WHEN FEEDING YOUR BIRDS TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM WEIGHTS THAT WILL ENABLE YOU TO SELL AND MAKE MORE PROFITS

 
To ensure that your  broilers that you are raising have the lowest

 mortality, good food conversion ratio (FCR), and highest profit.

 You have to follow a good feeding schedule and techniques.


1)Quantity of Feed

You see, broiler production is ‘what you sow you will reap business ‘

As a general rule, it takes about 2kg of feed to produce 1kg of

 flesh in broilers.

Therefore, the quantity of feed to supply depends majorly on

 your target weight and the age you want to sell or slaughter the birds.


2)For a broiler farmer that intends to sell his stock at 2kg body

 weight at 6 weeks and 6weeks of age, the farmer must be ready

 to feed the bird 4Kg - 4.5kg of feed per bird is, while for farmers

 that intend to sell birds at 8 weeks at3.5kg will need

7Kg - 7.5kg of feed per bird.


3)To maximize profit in broiler production, no broiler should be

 kept beyond 8weeks to ensure maximum profit.

4)some birds naturally tends to eat more than others and this is

 the reason while you have to sort and grade your broilers when

 they are at 2weeks so that those eating more than the others

 will be separated, to make sure they all eat well.


5)Separate the big broilers (those eating more) in one part of

 the housing from the slow eaters. And feed them separately

 using the same feed quantity.


6)Find out the accurate grams you should be feeding your bird.


7)After knowing the quantity of feed to be given to each broiler,

 the next thing is to understand the techniques of supplying the feed.


Practice Ad-libitum Feeding: This will make your birds achieve

 2-3kg between 5-6weeks of age without using any feed

 addictives and organic boosters.


9)Restricted feeding is not the best practice for broiler farmers

 who intend to achieve better weights within limited period of

 them.This is because of the restricted feeding which will result

 in reduced growth rates.


10)Feed your birds Starter, starting from day 1 - day 10, You can

 also feed your birds Starter feeds from 11-24th.But you can

 feed your birds  Finisher  feed from their 25th day to market, not

 later than day 42 when the birds are expected to have 2.7kg live weight.

HOW TO PREVENT DISEASES COMMON TO DAY OLD CHICKS AND THE RIGHT DRUGS TO USE .

The brooding period is the most important growth stage in the life of day old chicks. And this is the stage that determines how their performance will later be in the nearest future. But today let's talk about Signs you will see when birds have diseases.

Signs that birds will give when they are infected  includes  Poor Appetite, Huddling, Blood in litters, Sneezing, Coughing , Ruffled Feathers, Stunting

Growth , Increased Mortality, and droppings of different colours such as white, green, yellow, brown and black poops. All this are sign of Diseases. But why wait until your birds show this signs of diseases why not start preventing it why you still have the chance.

Common Poultry Diseases And The drugs to prevent Them are listed below.
Cold - cold attacks broilers, pullets but turkeys the most, its often caused by insufficient heat in the brooding house and also caused by too much of cold weather.  Cold can be treated by giving Tylosin or Oxytet(Oxytetracycline) or any drug containing Tylosin will work just fine.

Catarrh and sneezing (CRD). This is a diseases that occurs due to the bad air the birds breath in. Examples are Dusty air that blows into the pen, Ammonia smell coming from the droppings of the birds when breath in for too long will also cause CRD. Prevention includes  don't allow the droppings of your birds to become smelly before disposing the litters. And also stop dusty air from blowing into your pen. Drugs to prevent and to treat is Gentylo, Or Coryl Sp Or Tylosin will work just fine.

E. Coli infection.
You will know your birds have this bacteria diseases when they start dropping thick brown faeces. Often cause by poor biosecurity. Treatment is the use of Enrofloxacin or tetracycline or Doxygen.

Salmonella (Fowl Typhoid).
Symptoms includes Diaarhea and Reduced Food Intake. Drugs to use is either Amoxy-Col Or Collistin Or Tetracycline or Doxygen.

Newcastle Viral Diseases
 Everyone knows Newcastle diseases is best prevented against by giving your birds the vaccine when they are at 14th day then every month after that. But if in case the were infected do not vaccinate sick birds because it will only make them more sicker. The best is to give your birds Doxygen and viramix. Or Any other strong antibiotics with Viramix.

Gumboro Viral Diseases
Gumboro diseases is also best prevented against by giving IBD Vaccine when they are at  11th day and 19th day of their age. But if they in any way get infected. Use Doxygen with Viramix for them.
And you can also put small quantity of polidine in their water like 4ml to their 10litres and alsonuse it to disinfect their house.

Coccidiosis
You will know your birds are infected With Coccidiosis when they start dropping Yellowish foamy poops or Blood poops.
Treatment against it and how to cure use   Toltrazuril base drug, Amprolium, Amprococ, Embacoc, Vitacox you can also use embazin forte.
