Itsrm:Except its for the flex of being a landlord and able to collect rents in kind from female tenants its not worth it I remember telling Olowu this sometime this year. Its even worse if you are planning to collect the rent and send abroad 5M Naira rent which was over $10k before is now like $4k 3 Likes 3 Shares |

LP party Senators reject party directives and collected their SUV https://www.nairaland.com/7884030/lp-lawmakers-shun-abure-set But when asked on Thursday whether LP lawmakers would do as Abure said, the lawmaker representing Delta Aniocha North and South, Ngozi Okolie, said Abure’s demands were unrealistic particularly because he had yet to provide them with alternatives to carry out their jobs. The LP lawmaker said, “The SUVs are meant to aid our jobs as lawmakers, particularly as it relates to our oversight functions. “Yes, he can say that the economy is struggling but having one official vehicle as federal lawmakers isn’t frivolous; it’s a necessity.” 1 Like 1 Share |

raumdeuter: It kinda works if you're able to buy or build in a highbrow area. Huge capital outlay but rents creep up in choice locales. Anything middle class or lower. Abort mission. Or you eat the loss and hope to sell for multiples if long term projections of property value in the neighborhood are rosy. The perennial FX crisis has been a major incinerator of wealth. Meanwhile diasporan Indians are living the dream. -Lord 1 Like |

I would not advise anybody on building anything now...My compound where I'm building a row of stores, the first part of the stores on one side of the land took about 1.5 million to roof early last year, this time I've spent that amount and then some only on wood...No workmanship, no aluminum and other miscellaneous..They just finished the wood work, I called the aluminum supplier and he said the price we agreed on is no longer possible as the price has increased by almost 15% just in two weeks...If I knew I would have not started the wood work at all cuz as long as there is already wood you must cover soon, may God help us for this country... |

raumdeuter:Bros thanks to that convo with you & Ibime on the house matter, I got more clarity on my reasons to buy, so I decided to hold fire until I was on ground; bought 3weeks ago in phase 1 as oppose to Ikate; got a slightly bigger and better apartment & 15% less due to FX. Buying now for me made sense as I am not expecting to repatriate any income generated, btw another angle is cost savings against hotels/accomdation cost when visiting Naija cos the prices are also on the up, paid averagely like N90k per night for a decent non international brand; likes of Raddissons will be maad money for 3weeks stay. So I would still opine that maths still works for owning an apartment for shortlet especially in high brow areas. |

Theflint1: I summarise it best as this; 2015 - pro APC\ anti-PDP 2019- Anti -pdp (protest vote). And maybe I was indeed wrong for that 2019 vote. No way Atiku would have been worse than Buhari. But anti-corruption has been my strongest word since I became politically conscious and corruption issues always determined who will ultimately get my vote. Fair to say PDP has been a child's play when it comes to the institutional multilayered corruption under APC. One that is set to continue under the grand looter of Lagos in the coming years. 3 Likes |

Olowunl01: Congratulations you suppose declare something for us oh Cost of hotel can be very high. Radisson Blu, Marriott and highbrow hotels cost like 300k a night around May to July, with FX wahala it probably costs even more so it makes sense to get a place if you will be spending longer time |

nihilistjnr: I take no joy in revisiting this. I've been saying this for years and personally evangelising the japa gospel publicly and privately for this reason. Nigeria cannot get better in its current state, there are just too many vectors working against it as a country. The civil war was a huge opportunity missed for the future of the people that inhabit the accursed contraption called Nigeria. If you can japa, do so. This country has nothing for you. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

nihilistjnr: Under what circumstance do you think Nigeria can work if we take today as our starting point, Even with a break up, what are the things that can make it work? Or what does "work" look like to set realistic expectations |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by nihilistjnr: 10:18pm On Oct 20, 2023 |
raumdeuter: My opinion is likely to be controversial, and so I apologise in advance to anybody I might offend. Nigeria is too big for the incredibly under-resourced government to administer to any degree of efficiency. In all honesty, the way to fix Nigeria is to be cut throat and ruthless. When a ship sinks, the surviors must leave the victims to drown in a straight choice between survicval and saving lives. Most of the North is a foregone conclusion. Most northern states were unwieldy , infeasible and economically impotent. There is no hope for that part of the country. There never was. They were backward since 1914. They were ill-equipped at the dawn of independence, and they are feudalistic society in 2023, sharing more in common with Middle Eastern Culture than they do with us in the south. As if the modern day serfdom that hold sway in most of Nothern Nigeria is not enough, they have also historically and contemporararily clung tight to the more violent tenets of fundamental Islam, and so the affliction of utterly senseless violence that is shared by so many majority Muslim countries is present there, as well as the associated desire to pursue a stone age lifestyle. I personally would cut everything above the confluence line loose to go and sort them selves out, as a minimum starting point. There is no place for them on the lifeboat. They must drown. I'm sorry. Then I would examine what's left. This potentially leaves me with a yoruba country from ayetoro spanning all the way west to the Benin Republic border and then all the way south to Otta. I see Lagos as another country. The areas around Lokoja, Kogi etc can be the Benue Republic with access to the coast through the river. Then there's Biafra around a core Igbo identity although I'm not sure this the likes of Edo Delta or Rivets state will join them, and not having access to coastline could prove a serious sticking point. I think the Niger Delta is likely to break out into civil war if given the opportunity to do so. There's too many chiefs, warlords and guns, the rewards of access to oil money are too great, and the historical fault lines are too deep. I think this combination is too potent, and they will likely drown. I think the cross river and calabar region is its own country as well. I don't have an answer for Edo. This is my starting point. I'm on my phone and I don't have the energy to flesh out my ideas all at once, but you might be able to guess what my ideas might be in terms of economic policies, political organisation, security architecture, and immigration issues. 6 Likes 2 Shares |
