They don't want to argue it but would focus on the Okpa - Izu debacle to make the make point obscure. The endpoint is to deviate. Haven't you noticed how the initial response to LiveLongNProspa has been deliberately ignored to focus on the minority issue?

It's deliberate and I'd have further that goal if I jumped into fray. Muddying the waters is a tactics I understand too well. Women do it frequently enough for any man not to understand the benign intention.
If I were of another very distant ethnicity/tribe/region, the play would have been tribalistic tags to make me cower even when we know that isn't the point.

The hysteria is just theatrics. I know this, you know this, we know this. smiley
He finally admits it was a debacle, that should settle that bit. The rest of your argument is valid, and I sort of agree with it.

Well, the current governor blames Buhari administration for allowing Plataeu to be a fertile ground for terrorists to grow.

https://guardian.ng/news/plateau-attack-mutfwang-says-terrorists-occupied-schools-for-years/

The governor lamented that a lack of arrests and prosecution of armed groups makes some citizens feel their attackers are being protected.

“Under the last regime, the feeling of the people in Plateau State, particularly the victims of these terrorist attacks, is that, it looks as if the terrorists were given official government backing to be able to terrorise them because little or nothing was done to repel these attacks,” Mutfwang added.

The governor disclosed that he would engage President Bola Tinubu to give instructions to security agencies to protect the state and other parts on the country.

In an instant, he was willing to sacrifice Obi on the altar of subethnic rivalry/superiority. That was the point to buttress. All that loyalty went out the window.

It's like an Ogun man willing to sacrifice Fashola on the altar of subethnic superiority in defense of Ibikunle Amosun, even when we know Fashola was way better. No Ogun man would ever say this, subethnicity be damned. This is the point to buttress.

Izu wasn't even the one at fault and I didn't imply it given how I went on to quote only OkpaNsukka's comments. But he knows yet would muddy the waters in a bid to avoid the main point of subethnic superiority raised.

U are partly right and he's also partly right.

He's partly right because only the police, DSS, NSCDC and other FG controlled security agencies that can actually investigate and effect arrest of suspected terrorists carrying out these killings.

You are partly right by saying he's not serious. A serious governor will do everything to protect his people even if he's incapacitated by the inaction of FG controlled security agencies. Just like Raumdeuter suggested yesterday, nothing stops Plateau & Benue state governors from floating their own state security/paramilitary agencies like Amotekun in Southwestern states. At least they get security votes which nobody knows what they use it for.

Instead of discussing with this Tinubu administration and waiting for help that may take so long to come, they can put things in place and fund their own paramilitary agency for the protection of their people.

Some of these Govenors are not serious jare. Nothing stop them from having a security trust fund and fully funding a unit of a police/mopol department that will be dedicated to their state.

Look at Lagos for example, Lagos has the Lagos State Security Trust fund which is used to fund the Neighborhood Corp, RRS and the likes. RRS are from the same police force but Lagos takes over their welfare and operational needs and to a very large extent the Governor has control over them. That's why you will rarely see RRS engaging in extortion and the likes that their normal police officer do.

Like you said, the Governors should put their security vote to use and protect their people while they contionously hold the FG neck to do their damn job of protecting the lives and properties of the people they swore an oath to protect.

We had security challenges in Kogi State where kidnappers terrorised motorists in highways across the state (we still do to some extent) ,then Yahaya Bello set up a Security Joint Task Force and provided logistics support to them. Those fingered and caught were dealt with and there's relative calm in our highways though there are breaches here and there but the arrangement has worked to reduce the activities of criminals terrorising motorists.
You don't wait for FG to respond to every security breach and the excuse that the military and paramilitary forces are not answerable to Governors is debatable, Femi Falana argued against that citing the provision in an interview with Channels.

As in.... Sometimes u can't but wonder what some of these governors have in mind before buying gubernatorial nomination form to run for governor.

I mean as a private citizen who has lived among his people and knows the problem that plagues them, it is expected that u already have plans to combat insecurity which is the biggest challenge of Plateau state considering many years of inter-ethnic crisis and tribal related killings in the state. Anybody that is not having a workable plan to combat this should even be allowed to win his party's governorship ticket.

He should have all these plans about putting his security vote/security trust fund to work even before he won the election. Now he's waiting for FG that almost all the 36 states are waiting for to help sort their respective security challenges.

He can argue that funding a unit of the police may not be enough to combat insecurity/terrorism of that scale, but there's still the need for him to fund a paramilitary unit like Amotekun that can act in intelligence gathering capacity for the police/military.

Maybe they forgot that part of their oath of office was to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of their state.

The hard conversation about policing in Nigeria will need to be discussed. We cant continue on this path. As long as the Governors can always hide behind the FG, the tendency of abdicate their own responsibilities is very high. Just collect security vote every month and flex with it.

The NPF cannot adequately police the entire country currently and alot of states are already militarized which shouldn't be so. Something has to give.

How do u compare roadside kidnappers & armed robbers to these invading terrorists? Kidnappers & armed criminals steal then run to hide their loot with civilians. These guys are not hidden..they're controlling 64 communities in Plateau state according to the governor...i.e to say that that the indigenous people from these communities has fled for their safety(just like some people fled to Benin Republic) thus the terrorists effortlessly occupied the communities.

Yeah it's going to be a hard conversation.

1.State policing can help curb activities of non-state actors in parts of the sates that are not adequately policed.

2. State policing can be abused by state governors to witch-hunt their perceived enemies/members of the opposition.

There must be a middle ground somewhere somehow

Joseph1832 , see that notion I insisted on from yesterday on the other thread? Here's a woman reiterating it two hours ago on Facebook and it's going viral. Only she localised it to a particular ethnic group while I generalised along gender lines. The later holds true regardless of clime, race, or tribe.

https://www.facebook.com/100003235703476/posts/pfbid02KDLgvypVYwdgxShaJtbjkd6m42HzqvCywdz6xXhmxUA6QzUnD7i82xw6oj7799ucl/

These women know how manipulative they can be and their tendency to put only their interests first; the naysayers on that thread inclusive.

Maybe a situation where Federal Police have some form of higher authority over state police.

So when governors attempt to abuse their powers, the federal government can always come in

Remember the back-and-forths on alternate months we engage in on this thread about a certain city's tendency to celebrate gang culture and romanticise violent vices? Erm, yeah.

Here's less than a day-old example of a page dedicated to the city celebrating such: https://www.facebook.com/100063057078594/posts/pfbid02RGtQk8fv8j7SfkXaaPzgyetZjbjZQEfHoaG6u94N2jo753WGQoqcKEDxuZQsa2fol .

Notice the comments and nested comments, even by women who one would otherwise have thought avoid such things? More particularly, notice how the page itself is responding to such comments and edging them on?

"DissTróy exaggerates these things. It's not as bad as he makes it out to be." Uncomfortable conversations are necessary sometimes. smiley

The irony is that in theory a system like that could lead to respect for federal police. In popular culture once the feds get involved American criminals dey piss for body. Last thing you want is to come to the attention of the DOJ.

The problem in this is that a governor who is let's say member of PDP will accuse a president who is APC member of using Federal Police to overrun his state police. Just look at the situation we had with Buhari v Ortom of Benue state that year.

Normally one would say the Judiciary should be in the best place to determine who has jurisdiction between Federal & state police on certain matters, but we all know what our Judiciary has become with different injunctions being obtained from different courts of coordinate jurisdiction.

I despise people like the guy in that video because they come with all sorts of bulllshitt when a person dies; bullshittts they can't say while the person is alive. Akeredolu has been married to the woman for over 30 years and they've enjoyed a fruitful and happy union even while he was in private practice. He has never for once made any statement that suggests the woman is taking advantage of him.

Now the man has blood cancer that took his life and a random nobody is spilling conspiracy theory about the woman being opportunistic and all sort of gibberish. If the woman believed in prayer, the man will most probably still die all the same. I remember Fayose's sister who is a strong believer who had breast cancer that year, she died eventually. The woman even celebrated her own death before she died eventually .(It was in Tribune newspaper that year)
