Theflint1: CrystalTiger: Personally I don’t support this move of creating yet another ministry especially when we have ministry of agriculture already in place . But then again , if we look at the creation of Niger Delta and how it has stemmed the tide of militancy in the the south south; maybe we should give this creation of this ministry of livestock a chance . Perhaps with the creation of this ministry the leaders of the Fulani herdsmen will have no further excuse than to call their marauding brothers to order . We all know how MEND was blowing up pipelines and protesting neglect of the Niger Delta region despite the region being the goose that lays the golden egg of this nation . The creation of ministry of Niger Delta in a way brought a semblance of normalcy to the region after the amnesty program. Let’s see if this livestock ministry will have similar effect on farmer-herders clash . At least miyetti Allah will not claim Fulani herders are being treated unfairly going forward . At least for the sake of our food security 4 Likes 1 Share |

BlueRayDick: The problem is that the herdsmen are not willing to invest 1 naira in the purchase of lands for their cattle Livestock does not start and end with cows. Why will these guys hold everybody to ransom? Someone is herding 50 cows. One cow is more averagely 1 million now, yet that person cannot lease 20k per acre for them. All he wants is to be walking about with them while they destroy crops. If we like, we should create Cow Ministry. If they will not lease and constrain their cattle to a land, fight go dey well well 2 Likes |

izzou: This was the same way people thought creating ministry of Niger Delta will not solve address the MEND menace in the Niger Delta . Overtime the relevant stakeholders have found a way to settle agitators and to an extent expatriates are drilling oil with low incident of kidnap in the creeks today. From What I read , Tinubu set up a committee last year to resolve the farmers-herders crisis in Nigeria. The ministry was headed by Jega and one of their 21 point recommendations to resolve the crisis is the establishment of this ministry of livestock . The fact that the rest of the country allowed for the creation of ministry of Niger Delta to solve the militancy issue in the Niger Delta, I am willing to give this livestock ministry benefit of doubt as well . Let’s see how it goes . I believe Miyetta Allah actually has what it takes to control their members , they just want attention like the South South got theirs before they will help the government in reining their members in. This goes beyond buying land and rearing cows . |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:15pm On Jul 09 |
BlueRayDick: These two scenarios are different, and i am very much surprised with how you really want an apple to look like an orange Niger Delta agitations arose from issues of how they have been shortchanged compared to what they offer to Nigeria. How are you comparing this to herdsmen? A herdsman is running a business, the same with someone selling pepper or rearing pigs. Or do they transfer their sales to the FAAC account? Acquire lands, dem say no Lease lands, dem say no So the government should give them lands or give them permission to be walking and destroying people's land? Which one go solve the problem now? 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 9:42pm On Jul 09 |
izzou: I’m not in any way trying to make apples become oranges. While u are right that the herdsman is running a business same as the farmer; it is important to note that there are actually grazing reserve laws in this country. These laws were actually enacted to resolve herders-farmers crisis as far back as the 60’s ( No be today ) Please carefully go through the links below : https://businessday.ng/agriculture/article/explainer-what-are-grazing-reserves/?amp https://punchng.com/analysis-of-grazing-reserves-law/?amp I believe creation of this ministry is just Tinubu’s way of finding a lasting solution to the farmer-herders crisis . Only time will tell if it is a step in the right direction or otherwise |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:51pm On Jul 09 |
BlueRayDick: Grazing reserves are lands set aside for grazing. The link from Punch explained the process, right down to where the owners will be compensated. So the summary of the law is that lands should be made available for grazing; and those lands should be gotten from a mutual agreement with the owners and compensation So why can't a herdsmen approach a community and lease a land, if there are no grazing reserves? Farmers lease lands for 20k per acre. Some interior places are like 6k. But a herdsman will rather walk through farmlands and destroy crops, rather than pay 50 kobo. You can have hope in the Ministry, but dem and Niger Delta are two parallel lines. 1 Like |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 10:04pm On Jul 09 |
izzou: The “why questions” u are asking is what the ministry is created to answer . I don’t have answer to those questions, I’m a southerner like u and I do not understand why a northerner who is a herdsmen cannot approach his fellow northerner or southerner (for those in the south ) to purchase land specifically for gracing his herd . If this move fails to solve the problem like other Tinubu’s moves , then we can all add this to one of the failures of his government |
