iamoyindamola: No, it won't affect customer funds. The migration is for their vendors. What they are upgrading is the EBS platform where the vendors use to submit quotes |

iamoyindamola: I donāt how true it is , but someone told me the reason why GTB is having the most issues with this upgrade is because they were using a customized app/platform . Now that they need to move to another platform itās a big problem for them unlike those who were using a general app/platform. I am not a tech guy so I donāt really understand much of what the guy said. But he said other banks will not face as much issue as GTB when they are moving to new platform |

BlueRayDick: Its kind of like the problem with Chinese phones, devices etc. You buy a no name windows pc made in china and rebadged for sale in Nigeria. You format it to reinstall Windows and you cannot find drivers anywhere. You go to Google, you cannot find any information. The people who put it together made no documentation available. So you are literally fumbling in the dark. I experienced this with one windows tablet like that years ago. Eventually I found drivers for the device in one obscure blog. If you want to update your Samsung phone manually, there are multiple resources that can provide guidance. Try that with all these Tecno phones.. We have been working with some Chinese on some ev project and it has been an absolute nightmare getting the simplest things to work. Arguments over basic like what is the power rating of this equipment. Incomplete, poorly done documentation Now take that and multiply it. If you are migrating from enterprise system a to enterprise system b, there is documentation, guides etc. It is worse for gtb because it is very likely that the people who built the core of their system have japaed and there was never an actual system for retaining institutional knowledge. As I write this I have the entire drawings of my old company going back to 2004. Drawings of over a 100 stations. I backed them up personally when we were doing a migration, because no one thought it would be necessary. I still get calls today asking me for drawings of obscure sites or other records. If I was unavailable, they would have to prepare multiple drawings all over again. It is also why enterprises do not like open source software. Because there is often little or no technical support. So you have to resolve your problems yourself. I enjoyed troubleshooting when I was younger, but now it is just a nuisance getting in the way of productivity. This is what is happening here. Gtb is struggling with an undocumented, patched together rsystem they do not have proper support for and which they likely do fully understand. And the people who understand it are gone. Almost like during the y2k scare when they had to get cobol coders out of retirement to patch legacy systems running on cobol. 2 Likes |

Or Dmitry Polyakov who was a Russian mole in the CIA pretending to be a CIA mole for the Russians but was actually a CIA mole for the Russians. I thought the West want to defeat Russiaš·šŗ. The logical thing is to accept Ukraine into NAFO then activate article five and then invade/attack Russia Maybe Ukrainians are just the meat grinder/cannon fodder to weaken Russia, the West are not ready to put boots on ground to die for Ukraine. Thus Mr Zelensky victory plan has failed because; 1) No Long range missiles approved 2) NAFO membership rejected. Imagine Russian military drones heading to Ukraine violating NAFO member states air space, they will rather escort the drones to Ukraine territory than shutting it down for violating her airspace. The same allies are shutting down & intercepting Iranian, Houthis missiles/rocket/drones heading to Israel from their military bases in the Red Sea, Eastern Mediterranean, Iraq, Jordan, Syria etc. Russia na their papa.

BlueRayDick: This makes a lot of sense actually. The reason SAAS ERP providers are making major bank now lies in the fact that they are taking the burden of formulating and maintaining a road map off their customers. Previously a lot of companies built their own ERP software to their specific requirements, but then would have had to dedicate enormous resources towards market research to ensure their system was still competitive, ensure their system was hardened against the latest security threats, ensure their system could scale with widening distribution of workforce of global scale etc, whilst also ensuring that the underlying infrastructure like windows/Linux servers were constantly upto date and replaced, underlying software like JRE or Microsoft Silverlight won't cause security problems etc. Then these companies also have to think about disaster recovery and how to ensure availability of key business servers and applications if something went down. The smart money was to move to homogenised cloud solutions immediately the tech became mature. I started talking about ERPs, but it's most tech in general that's moved cloud based for this particular reason. The risk profile changes very very significantly and if something goes wrong, liability has been pushed elsewhere. For example, I was due to fly to Prague the day of that global IT outage, and my flight was delayed for 7 hours. Usually I should have gotten my money back from the airline, but they refused my claim saying they were not liable for a global IT problem. 2 Likes |
