Most state legislatures na dunces pack full inside.

Including the private sector is what I fear for .

But then, I am not looking for a job, neither am I intending to work there.

Many states do it for only Government jobs....Can you show me any state that is forcing the private sector?

He is saying even the private sector must prioritize indigenes....I don't know, but that is a risky move

You cannot enforce for private sector but you can take away govt patronage from the private company who doesnt comply

I can be in Oyo and decide to only employ Benue farmers because of some reasons.

Nigeria is truly a unique place! If you leave your house and return in one piece without catching any stray bullets, just keep thanking God. You can get dragged into anything/everything wey no even be your business.

Una go use extreme clannishness spoil that Akwa-Ibom.

The outsiders you refer to are Nigerians right?

How the hell do you expect state governments to mandatorily employ non-indigenes?

Didn't Anambra flush out other Igbos who are non-Anambrians from its system?

By the way, Cross Riverians and Abians are employed in the Akwa Ibom Civil Service (Abians from Arochukwu especially). No Ibibio man with his head intact discriminates against an Arochukwu person.

The states that do it sef don't come out explicitly to say so and even go as far as ratifying it in the state's laws. These are the sort of things you handle quietly at the backend.

Most places do it, in Niger Delta, Oil service companies have a quota for local people. If you are a graduate from oil producing community, they used to give preference to them as well

Many places dey do this for long whether coded or openly

Ibom air office in Lagos will comply with Local Lagos laws and employ accordingly. Ibom air in Akwa Ibom will employ only indigenes

Its like Chevron in Nigeria will comply with Nigerian employment and Labor laws observe Naija public holidays and not US holidays

i am saying what stops lagos and other states doing tit for tat?

ibom air flies to lagos, calabar, port harcourt, enugu, abuja. therefore they have offices in all these states. so what happens if the states also take the same line? all ibom air employees must be indigenes of our state

Well, he inherently confirmed allegations of 'outsiders' being given state civil service jobs. Something I stated last year on this board Akpabio's wife was very guilty of as First Lady in favour of her kinsmen.

My concern socio-politico-economically really is the implementation of the the PIA and Host Community Development Trust, and the stipulations of the Oil and Gas Freelance Zone, all formed/created in 2021.
Those would employ multiple times what the state government ever can directly and indirectly. And that's just employment-wise.

grin

......if una happy with the development, I am happy for you guys as well. No dey allow anyone gaslight una - Akwa-Ibom First Agenda should be protected.

Other states have to do the same. Its almost like Trump tariffs, do me I do you. If they do not, then they are leaving themselves at a disadvantage
Oyo state will simply say for Ibom air to have office in Ibadan, they need to employ strictly Oyo indigenes in their Ibadan office

This has been happening for at least 30yrs that I know especially in Oil producing region, When they shut down il company stations, part of their resolution sometimes is to employ indigenes

Everyone dey press from their position of advantage, Akwa govt probably thinks there are enough jobs in his states and non indigenes are taking it more than the indigenes

Exactly! Since 2021 the FG has passed a law which states host communities in the Oil and Gas Free Zone are entitled to 60% of all jobs in the area.

They also have the right of first refusal for contracting as long as their competence is proven.

Anambra kicked out other Igbos from its civil service more than 7 years ago.

You expect state governments whose IGRs are shared by the FG to employ people from other states when their taxes go to the Centre? Just because Lagos is magnanimous doesn't make it a right.

Many states are already doing this and have been doing this for a long time. Its official in many states especaly in the North that state gov jobs are for indigenes. Thats why you see some non indigenes start claiming that state

Its left for those not doing it to take a cue so you don't get disadvantaged

https://www.nairaland.com/7846306/anambra-govt-only-indigenes-anambra

What I don’t understand is how will a state government compel private owned businesses domiciled in the state to prioritize employing indigenes of that state .

I know the state governor can try that nonsense with civil service jobs that are of no consequence , but how will u compel private businesses that ought to be merit based to adopt such archaic and regressive approach to talent acquisition within their organization ? 🤷‍♂️

To pass law easy, to enforce na the problem. If I employ 1 Kogi, 1 Benue and 1 Nasarawa how can govt enforce. Maybe impose a tax on you for employing non indigenes or give tax breaks to those who employ indigenes

If I insist and I am ready to pay the fine, I dont know how they can press further

I don't know if it was just made law in 2021, but the practice has been going on for over 25yrs, I had Ogoni friends who mention this frequently, Some even sell their slots to outsiders.

This was in 2020: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/04/fg-says-60-of-jobs-in-free-trade-zones-for-host-communities/ . In 2021 it become a law.

Lagos: Lekki Free Trade Zone.

Rivers: Onne Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone.

Akwa Ibom: Ikot Abasi Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone.

My theory is, it's the cuisine. Seafoods have been known to be aphrodisiacs although no real study has truly confirmed it. Centuries of eating mostly seafood-based cuisines mean the higher libido has been passed on.

An Ijaw person mirrors an Akwa Ibom person in this aspect. Both typically eat seafoods exclusively. Shellfish, periwinkles etc. Have you seen an Ijaw fisherman soup, for example?
