Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has revealed that some directors don’t know how to use computers.

The HoS also disclosed that Permanent Secretaries face rigorous processes before appointment.

Yemi-Esan gave the assurance in a chat with reporters on Wednesday in Abuja.

She responded to the controversy surrounding the examination and appointment of the officials.

Yemi-Esan maintained that their selection and appointments were strictly based on merit.

She said there were no malpractices as alleged in some quarters, adding that “there are no preferred candidates”.

The HOS disclosed that some directors complained about computer-based tests because they were unable to operate computers.

Yemi-Esan said her office set questions one day to the examinations without the candidates or examiners’ knowledge.

“If the permanent secretaries who are supposed to lead the digitisation process don’t know how to operate computers, how can we not say that the public service is confused.

“How are they going to lead by example? That is the first thing”, she quipped.

On the non-application of civil service rules by some Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Yemi-Esan urged any one affected to send a petition to her office.

“We don’t know the details of what is happening in parastatals and agencies except our attention is called to it”, she said.

Definitely the workers recruited during PDP years when there was little regard for qualifications. It was strictly nepotism and favouritism based.

That is what you get from a system that goes all out to unleash violence on merit.
When you seet 2 as the entrance point for some northern states into Unity schools and after graduation, you make them perm secs, don't expect anything else.. If you get into power and decide for whatever reason to surround yourself with your ethnic henchemen and partizan hacks and hirelings, you can NEVER get the best out of the politics of your country or the from the civil service.

This very presidency is very adept at using tribal cronyism to flood every sector of the countrys administrative set up with bad appointments. Buhari and his goons gate examination. The country will always pay for this. And it didn't start today. When Buhari was the president during his military days, he tried the same thing, flooding every sector of the security agencies with his fulani urchins.., leading General Salihu, a former Chief of Army staff after him to label the Nigerian Army after Buhari as "an Army where anything goes "

Hahahaha

Just imagine .. when is said a country run by fulanis reverse back to the stone ages yesterday some of you thought I was joking .

The Fulani tribe is so unintelligent backward and crude... They are the epitome of unintelligence...

This is why they celebrate when a child finishes primary school.

To allow such a backward set of individuals run the affairs of your country then you should not be surprised when your currency sinks life a torpedoed submarine .

I blame the Yoruba and Ibo for putting us in this mess honestly

Dear Nigerian youths, please let us join political parties and contest for posts too.

Let us flood this political parties.

Anyone you want, just register and become a card carrying member.

All these old people will soon die. At least let us have qualified youths that can contest for positions before these old people will install their children to continue their nonsese legacy.

Before we laugh at them, let's consider a few things.

1.Average age of them directors is 55-65.

2.Most of them, when they were young...like in the 1980's and 90's were very very unlikely to have seen or used a computer...desktop or otherwise.

3.Computers were not that common in Nigeria....until the last 10-15 years. Think about it.....even as late as 2003, MOST Nigerian students did not have a laptop or PC, or even a desktop. Most would have found it diffiicult to access a desktop.

4.By the time computers became ubiquitous, many of these people were already in their forties. You really don't need to use a computer in Nigeria...especially since most civil service work is still paperwork.

So before any 25 or 20 year old nairalander comes and mocks 'these old men' consider the above points. Even today, most young Nigerians still don't have access to a PC, laptop, tablet, or whatever.

very unreasonable ascertion.

these directors are mostly not below the age of 55years

during their schooling and early working years, all they were exposed to was pen and paper... My dad for example does magic in audit to date with pen and paper. Him sha dey try read email cheesy

However, what we should be looking out for is their willingness to adapt and evolve.

as always, chasing shadows

Do they use the computers? Secretary and PAs do it for them, they only sign and approve.
