Good evening everyone
I went for my F1 interview on Monday but I was denied.
Firstly, I will like to share my story. I got a full funding scholarship with a TA for PhD in chemistry. While filling the Ds160 , I answered yes to question about any relative in the US which is my husband and a citizen. On the interview day after questions abt my studies, the vo asked abt relative in the us, asked few questions regarding my marriage and then I was denied. I want to try if I could be lucky to reapply for spring again but I have some questions troubling me.
My questions are;
1. Do they keep previously filled DS160 information? I am thinking if in my next application I should put no for relative in the US. I know anyone can say why not in the first time, BT my husband thinks it can affect later if he want to file for me
2. What is my chance of getting approved if I reapply again?
I know people can say why not file instead but it take nothing less than 2years coupled with the fact DAT I want to pursue my PhD.

Please I need people suggestions on this.Thanks

DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING IN YOUR DS160, THEY HAVE THE INFORMATION, you have a fully funded scholarship so you have a very strong argument already, go back and try again, be very clear about your post study plans and opportunities in Nigeria

my dear don't go for f2 oh, it'll backfire oh, stick to f1, with your fully funded offer too I believe another VO might have a different opinion, be clear that u applied to the same school because you also wanna be close to ur husband but u ultimately wantu study and get back to your job, don't try F2 at all at this point, this is my subjective opinion, VO's might have there own reasons

No - I would think you come from a family of high achievers, Make sure you mention that BU required proof if funds before issuing the I20 - good luck.

There's clearly a good deal missing here. There seems to be a big swing in applicants who provide so much information that it overwhelms the consular officer e.g. "I am going to East State University in Anytown, USA to study with Prof Smith whose ground breaking research in the area of XYZ has led to a breakthrough in that area and has accepted me as his principal research associate." TMI

Then there is the student who answers every question yes or no, or with as little data as possible.

What the consular officer was asking you was why did you not get an F2 when your. husband applied for his F1. I would have expected you to apply for you F1's together or an F1/F2 together

I know everyone wants to be seen as unique - but the Consular Officer has only so much band width. No is the default answer and therefore easy - make it an easy yes.

Regardless of the question, you need to answer that and then pivot to one or more of those three points.

Please take time to do your research on your specific program of interest and the top schools in that field. There are thousands of universities in US

I suggest joining EducationUSA if you’re in Abuja or Lagos. It’s part of the embassy and provides great resources. They even have university fairs next month.
