After winning big at the BET Awards 2021, singer-songwriter Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, helped put Africa on the map.



Tems shared the Best Collaboration award with Wizkid for their work on the Justin Bieber-featuring song "Essence" and won Best International Act.



She won the prize after defeating competition from fellow Nigerians Fireboy, Dave Dinos, Fally Ipupa, Little Simz, Ludmilla, Tayo, Major League Djz, and Ludmilla from Brazil.

"Thank you so much, thank you so much, for this. She remarked in accepting the prize at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night, "It is an honor, this is my first award show that I'm getting something, and I just want to use this as a chance to talk to every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home.



"Things like this don't happen where I'm from."
