South Korea's golden goal hero Ahn Jung-hwan had his contract terminated by Serie A club Perugia after his goal eliminated Italy at the 2002 FIFA World Cup round of 16 match, which had some really controversial officiating decisions.

Christian Vieri opened scoring for Italy in the 18th minute and Seol Ki-hyeon equalized for South Korea in the 88th minute before Ahn Jung-hwan scored the winner in the 117th minute.

The then Perugia chairman Luciano Gaucci said:

"That gentleman will never set foot in Perugia again.

"He was a phenomenon only when he played against Italy. I am a nationalist and I regard such behaviour not only as an affront to Italian pride but also an offence to a country which two years ago opened its doors to him.

"I have no intention of paying a salary to someone who has ruined Italian football."
