E Maa Wo Ori Omo Yen O.... "Watch That Child's Head" by Oluwatosinworld: 8:08am On Jul 05, 2022
The translation of the title up there goes thus: “Watch that child’s head”.

If you have ever boarded a public bus, especially a danfo, you must have heard commuters show so much concern when a woman with a baby strapped to her back is attempting to enter into the bus.

There are usually kind remarks such as:

“E maa wo ori omo yen o”.

“Abeg madam, dey look your pikin head o”

“Aunty, please bend down well, don’t let this child hit his/her head”.

I have experienced this so many times, that sometimes it makes me think all is well with the world.

But the sad fact is that among those concerned voices all pleading for the safety of that child are people who would molest or even kill children for rituals when no one is watching.

Among these seemingly good people are those who would starve, maltreat and batter their domestic helps. Among these outwardly compassionate individuals, we can find bullies, abusers, and sociopaths…in homes, the workplace, schools, etc.

Now, with the recent news on rape and violence, everyone is talking and making orisirisi posts condemning these evil acts.

Just like passengers in a danfo, we are all shouting “e ma wo ori omo yen o”.

The events of these past few days should make us sober and observe not just others, but ourselves too. If the things we do in our closets were exposed for all to see, would we have a justification?

When we point a finger, our other fingers are pointing at us. What are these fingers saying?

Let empathy rule in all we do, whether we are seen or not.

Have a beautiful week ahead, folks.
