Please bear with me. I know this question has been asked before but I need some fresh insight.

Is there any difference between Software Development & Web development?

I ask because I'm about to apply for the ALX Africa Software Engineering program (thanks to anonymous6o6 thread) and earlier on, I read tensazangetsu20 thread - about his recommended path for learning programming if he were to start today - and I noticed that he specified web development. So please, I want some clearance on the following:

1. Can a software engineer/developer work as a web developer and vice versa (a scenario is Amazons recent announcement of openings for software developers - if I were a web developer, would I be eligible to apply?)

2. If they are different, which do you think would be better to learn first - web development or software engineering?

3. Also, would I be correct if I said that the programming language someone learns would determine if he/she will be a web developer or a software engineer/developer ?
