What A Life! How We Saved N20,000 On My Daughter Treatment Fees!!! by WildFire01: 8:03pm On Jul 08, 2022
What a life! I am a single mother of 3 children; 2 boys and 1 girl aged 5, 3, and 1-year-old. I lost my husband last year due to colon cancer. He was diagnosed too late, and we simply did not have funds to cater for the therapies required to prolong his life, so he died 12 weeks after his initial diagnosis.

I gave birth to Ada my 1-year-old daughter just a few weeks after my husband was buried. Thankfully his friends and my relatives supported me to ensure that I could pay for ante-natal care and her delivery. For post-natal care, I resorted to traditional medicine however I ensured that Ada was vaccinated at a public primary healthcare center (PHC), which is 2 streets from where we live.

I follow Dr. Ayo popularly known as Noisy Naija Pediatrician (@thenoisynaijapaediatrician) on Instagram. A few weeks ago, he made an IG post recommending that his followers subscribe to the CarePay healthcare discount service. He mentioned that the service would help mothers and fathers cut down on their household healthcare spending as CarePay had negotiated discounts up to 40% with several private hospitals across Nigeria. I didn’t have a lot of money on me but since he mentioned that the family subscription was N4,800 for a year, I was motivated to subscribe as soon as I collected my contributions from Baba Alajo at the end of June. I got SMS messages from CarePay confirming my subscription once I paid.

I am thankful that I subscribed as Ada fell ill with fever and yellowness of the eyes on the 1st of July. I initially rushed her to the public primary healthcare center (PHC) but they told me that Ada likely had severe malaria which they could not cater to at their health center. They encouraged me to take her to LUTH or a private hospital in our neighborhood. While the nurse was writing the referral note, Ada started to convulse and foam at the mouth. What a life!
I didn’t even wait for the referral note to be completed before I rushed out of the health center. I was fortunate to see my neighbor Baba Ramo driving his Keke to the bus stop to pick up passengers. Baba Ramo’s Keke became our ambulance which conveyed Ada and me to Vigor hospital, a private hospital about 2 bus stops away from the health center. As soon as we arrived, Ada was taken to the emergency section while I was directed to the records section to pay for a card for Ada.

At the record section, I saw a notice which indicated “CarePay discount card accepted here”. The records officer confirmed that if I was a CarePay subscriber, I did not need to pay my full bill as subscribers are eligible for up to 20% discount on their bill. Despite my anxiety about Ada’s condition, I managed to smile for the first time on that day. “I thank God for my Dr. Ayo,” I said under my breath.

To cut the long story short, Ada was admitted for 3 nights, and she had 2 pints of blood while on admission. She also needed various laboratory tests and drugs. Our bill came to N100,000 but thanks to the CarePay healthcare discount card, we only paid N80,000. Don’t ask me how I got the N80,000, that one is another long story but the N20,000 I saved on her bill was like a God-sent gift to me. I thank Dr. Ayo, may he live long and continue to make noise on IG.

I advise my fellow mothers to subscribe to the CarePay healthcare discount card service as you never know when illness will strike, and you can save massively on your bill just by subscribing via their website https://healthcare.carepay.com or you can call 0800-227-3729 for assistance or further clarification.

Dr. Ayo also mentioned that the CarePay healthcare discount card can be used at over 300 private healthcare facilities including pharmacies like MedPlus and HealthPlus to save on drugs, at dental clinics to save on dental care, and at optical facilities to save on frames and lenses. I have been asking Dr. Ayo to do “give away” but this N20,000 I saved on Ada’s treatment is more than a “giveaway”. I am also happy that Ada got treated promptly and has been discharged. The good doctor Ayo has done well and may he live long and may he continue to prosper and make noise on IG.
