Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) on Monday said there was nothing wrong in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) flying a Muslim-Muslim ticket if it will enhance his victory in the 2023 Presidential election.

Tinubu, a Muslim and former Lagos state governor had announced former Borno State governor, Kashim Shetimma, another Muslim as his running mate, a decision that has sparked widespread criticism especially from the Christian community in the country.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Sagay who is the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) said religion shouldn't be a factor when a candidate is looking for a running mate that can enhance his victory in an election.

He said "My attitude to it is a very practical one. You are in an election to win the election. Pick the candidate that will enhance your victory, regardless of his religion". 

"If a candidate is in an election and he is serious about winning, he should do a detailed analysis. Any person that will enhance his victory, that is the person he should select as running mate". 

When asked if the North can accept a Christian- Christian ticket in the future, Sagay who is also a chieftain of the ruling party said   "That is an interesting question. It is a question of social level of development. I think we in the South are sufficiently socially developed to accept the practical outcomes in the electoral process without bothering what religion the person comes from". 

"So, if the northerners will not normally accept that, that should not be a measurement of our own response to the situation. It means the South is more socially developed".

Who says he's not free to?

As early as January, people have started talking about how power must come to the south because it was their turn. No one talked about COMPETENCE then. There are northerners who are equally as qualified as Tinubu. But nope! It was all about the south. Even when the national chairman of APC announced Lawan as the consensus candidate, northern governors kicked against it and insisted power must go to the south.

Now that it has gotten to the issue of religion for balancing, we suddenly remember the word COMPETENCE.
Why can't northern governors insist on a Christian running mate and support whoever Tinubu brings?

The problem we have in this country is that an average Nigerian is a very stupid, hypocritical idiot. When something favours us, we have a name for it. When that same thing doesn't favour us, we have a different name for it.

For example, when someone wants to help you get a government job, you say "my connect". If he fails to secure the job, you say corruption has taken place. Forgetting that your connect is also a corrupt act.

I am so happy that Tinubu dissapointed those selfish and dubious good for nothing northern governors, that sold out with the hope of one of them getting the Vp's spot with Tinubu,how on earth will you expect Tinubu to drop someone so loyal to his cause like Shetima for an unstable El rufai or Bagudu? Anyway everybody will be alright with the Muslim Muslim ticket, if the election is done in naija ways of doing things, Tinubu is the next president because he has an estate that vomits money for him which is lagos state, while Atiku cant boast of that luxury, and Obi is not popular in the core North, though he will have the sympathy of some Christian northerners.
The hunger in the country will likely make Tinubu wins because he can afford to give each voter 10k naira before he closes his eyes, but this can change if the nigeria electorates say no to that and also if Buhari stays neutral.
