3LACK:You didn't mention that the handouts they do sell is enough to generate enough income for a lucrative business. I can't forget the one that made us buy handouts from year one to my final year and even made us pay for biology practicals. Our educational system needs to be upgraded. |

Somebody will spend 5years in the system, graduate & still can't do anything practical. Is that not a waste? That practical knowledge could be acquired in just 3months, but because the lecturers don't want others there, they will not teach those things ... |

sukkot: I disagree completely. Thank GOD you used Havard as an example. Do you know the selection criteria to get into such schools? Any student offered into such schools already has 70% of what it takes to make it through. In Nigeria, a students that virtually can't read nor spell appropriately will find their way into the university and will be expecting to just pass. If not that lecturers take bribes, most student won't even get to year 3 not to talk of graduating. The crowd of students Nigerian lecturers get to handle alone is mind boggling as to how they manage to do it. Let's not even add poor facilities and very terrible working conditions at times lecturers are faced with. Yet one person that has not even stepped into their shoes will come here to write rubbish about our professors. It's a miracle our lecturers even manage to graduate some students! They deserve even more than 2 million a month. 1 Like 1 Share |

Angrymode: The Op is obviously frustrated with life & high on weed. How can a student who can't even reproduce what he or she was taught in exam pass? Intelligent students, who knows why they are in school don't have this thought pattern. He thinks dullards like him are those admitted into Havard. |

Angrymode:You are dumb. Our proffesors deserve nothing monthly. Most of them dont deserve to be anything. I went to Uni in Nigeria, and currently in Uni in a first class country, but what i have learnt in 3minths, i didnt learn it in 5years Nigeria Uni. If i learnt something in Nigerian Uni, it is frustration and depression combined with headache. Non of my generation will attend school in Nigeria ever. Dont compare ant with elephant 1 Like |

Jaqenhghar: Most? Then, how come people like me ended up with a first class degree? And many others with 2'1? I understand there are one or two courses which are usually too tough. I carried one course like that. 30 (F). There is always mass failure every year. But when I redid the course, I had an A. It turned out that there was actually nothing to fear about that course. Read hard, put in 70% attendance, be respectful, and that is all. Like I wrote earlier, maybe you are referring to lecturers of state universities or polytecnics. |

Re: Why A Nigerian University Professor Does Not Deserve More Than 200k A Month by BluntTheApostle(m): 11:00am On Jul 21, 2022 |
Jaqenhghar: Malice is everywhere. But don't make it seem like it is entrenched in our body of lecturers. It is not as bad as you people are making it. As for the part in bold, First of all, you need to make the effort to understand the routine of a lecturer. Some lecturers like "give it back to me exactly as I gave you", some like you to be more expressive. This is where it pays to attend tutorials, and ask questions from your seniors. Second, put in attendance. Most universities (around the world) demand at least 70% attendance. During exams, read instructions properly before attempting questions. Some papers have questions that are compulsory, and then the choices. If you don't read the instructions, you may fail to answer the compulsory question, and that is a loss of a lot of potential marks because the compulsory question always carries a lot of marks. Lastly, some students don't know how to answer questions. Either, they answer out of context, make too many unnecessary detours, or try to be smart by half. I have taken tutorial classes, and I know this very well. In fact, there was a time I had to publish a tutorial pamphlet to instruct students on how to attempt questions. I studied mathematics, and there were papers during which students were to think, and not merely calculate. And someone will know that this is more of problem-solving using logic, but then they would turn the question around in such a way that they see a need to calculate. Nothing annoys some lecturer as much as that. It not only wastes your own time trying to outsmart a lecturer, it also makes a bad impression on the lecturer who may decide not to waste any more time on your other attempts. |

BluntTheApostle:I call bullshit. First of as a student am I there to understand the subject or the lecturer? Your counterparts abroad dont do half of what you suggested and still pass. M9st students do as you have suggested and still fail yet you still think its the student's fault. Ifs easier to blame the victims in all these and look away from the actual problem but stats dont lie. If the lecturers were any good where are the nobel prizes and the international recognition? How come the public education sector has become so rotten that it is useless? 1 Like 1 Share |

Angrymode:They do nothing Most of the proffesor had a good Nigeria when they were young. During their time,it was easy to get into lecturing, and lecturing was a good job. And what useless condition are you referring to? What condition made them a sadist? And be donating depression and frustration to innocent student. It does'nt make sense. They turned themselves to small god, create weak students. Isn't it a shame that they govern the most energetic age of people, the risk takers and yet, they get nothing fro the federal goverment, that shows how useless they are |
