5 Steps To Take If You Need A Job by tech365ng: 5:59pm On Jul 21, 2022 |
1. Get a high-demand skill. Organizations don't hire just because they want to hire, they hire because the person can add value to the organization. Do you currently have a skill set that can improve the organization? If your answer is no, you may want to start with getting in-demand skills first. Based on my area of specialization, I highly recommended tech skills as it applies to all industries and are in demand globally but there is a non-tech skill in demand too, you can research them. 2. Build competence If you already have some high-demand skills, how competent are you in them? It is not enough to have a certificate or finish a course, can you use the knowledge acquired to solve real-world problems? Have you invested enough time to get experience, build projects and put the skill to work to get results? This can increase your chances by stating them on your CV 3. Grow your network Most jobs are not usually published as most organizations usually ask for recommendations or referrals times before posting jobs publicly. Do people who know you know that you are proficient in the area you are seeking for a job? As a job seeker, you can't keep your search to yourself. For people to recommend you for the opportunity, they need to know and be sure you are proficient in the area. Share about what you do consistently online and let your profile especially on LinkedIn reflect your skill and competence. If people go through your posts and they can't see anything related to what you are seeking a job for, it limits your chances. Your profile is your new CV. Some employers use it to assess candidates. 4. Do things differently If you are doing what everyone is doing, you will likely get the same result. To get different results, do things differently. Research about organizations that does what you are interested in. Reach out to them via email, or social media, contact their HR or visit where possible. They may even have openings you aren't aware of. 5. Review your CV Some people may have competence but their CV is nothing to write home about. Organizations will judge you by your CV and performance at interviews. Be intentional about these two. Pay a professional if need be so you can stand out. In conclusion, you don't have control over when you will get a job, however, you are in control over how you spend your time while waiting for your dream job. While you are waiting for your desired job, - Volunteer to gain experience - Join different international and local job posting websites - Search for your desired jobs on LinkedIn, Google and other directories - Invest time to learn more - Build more projects to increase your chances when the opportunity comes Remember, life doesn't respond to self-pity, it responds to your actions.
