Jakande ruled Lagos for just 4 years, from 1979 to 1983 when Buhari struck. Today, his fingerprints are still there for the public to see.

He established:
Lagos State University
Nigerian Institute of Journalism
He completed General Hospital in Gbagada and Ikorodu.
He built 20 Health Centres within the state
He constructed over 30,000 housing units. Some of the housing units were in
Amuwo-Odofin, Ijaiye, Dolphin, Oke-Afa, Ije, Abesan, Iponri, Ipaja, Abule Nla, Epe, Anikantamo, Surulere, Iba, Ikorodu, Badagry.

In order to fund the constructions, he increased the tenement rates and prices of plots of land in Victoria Island and Lekki Peninsula. He didn't increase it in places where the poor were staying so it won't affect them. He cared for the poor. He also increased processing fees for lotteries, pools and gaming licences. This increased internally generated revenue of the state. He refused to collect loans so the state won't be in debt.

He also started a metro line project to facilitate mass transit. Buhari later cancelled it when he took over power. When the Military Administrator of Lagos under Buhari approached the Head of State to reconsider the cancellation of the project as Lagos State would still be made to pay for it as per the contractual agreement with China. Buhari said “I don’t bloody care”. This is the major reason why people suffer daily in traffic in Lagos today. Jakande's foresight would have put Lagos ahead of other cities in the world in metro lines.

Jakande was later charged, prosecuted and convicted of TREASON by Buhari regime. NOT CORRUPTION OR STEALING OR BULLION VAN, but TREASON! When he was arrested and tried by the kangaroo tribunal, they had nothing else to charge Jakande with but Treason! Not stealing or misappropriation of funds or corruption or borrowing, but Treason.

Jakande did all he did in just 4 years without borrowing a kobo! Can any of the Lagos State governors even be regarded as being worthy to be ranked close to Jakande? 30,000 housing units in 4 years! 20 health centres. Oh, I forgot Primary and secondary schools too! He established 23 local Governments council which were disbanded by the military when Buhari sacked democracy.

Jakande estates, infrastructure and great works are still visible in Lagos till today. A man who did all those without borrowing or plunging the state into debt should be seen as the Father of Lagos!

Tinubu has not build any hospital good enough for him to use in Lagos but always traveling abroad for treatment. That's how bad health sector is today but they tell you he built Lagos ignoring Jakande. How unfair and unjust can people be jettisoning the good works of Jakande, who was not corrupt and ascribing it to Tinubu?!

Copied!

100%.

I can tell you the story just as if it all happened yesterday. Agberoism was not as evil as it became under BAT. Infact Agberoism was eliminated in Lagos when Buba Marwa was the governor. Agberos were arrested and some shot dead by members of “Operation Sweep”. BAT brought them back and empowered them more. They were to be used and still are used as tools of ballot box hijacking.

Tribalism and nepotism were not part of Lagos. Lagos was the federal capital and everyone came to Lagos to earn their living.

Abeg no remind me wetin I don forget.

Please vote right in 2023.

Ipob miscreant keep wailing over what's not their business.

The father of Lagos is actually Awolowo. Ikeja is Awolowo's brainchild. Over 300 roads, several schools, housing estates, UNILAG etc, first TV in West Africa etc

Jakande also did a lot for Lagos with several housing estates, roads, schools and LASU etc

As for Tinubu, Lekki is his brainchild as well as BRT, schools, housing estates. Tinubu was also the one that built LASU teaching hospital and clinical schools. Also enormous increase in Lagos revenue.

This has nothing to do with IPOB Mr revisionist and agbado adherent. Chief Awolowo was never the Governor of Lagos at any time in the history of Nigeria. He was the Premier of Western Region. Western Region was headquartered in Ibadan.

Go check on history. Majority of what became Lagos' today, including Ikeja were under the Western region which Awolowo was overseeing. Ikeja was Awolowo's brainchild.

Only thing that differentiate the likes of Jakande and Tinubu from Awolowo was the fact that they were governors of Lagos state while Awolowo was the governor of the Western region.

Agbado urchins that were born yesterday should go and ask their parents about Jakande. This great man did wonders within 4 years without stealing money talk more of becoming landlord in every area of Lagos. Even today, we can see Jakande estate everywhere in Lagos with the houses now owned by Lagosians on merit.

However, one criminal seized all lands owned by the state. Instead of building hundreds of estates for Lagosians to live decently, he cornered everything for himself, family and cronies.

Only Tinubu owns Oriental hotel, bourdilion, Intercontinental hotel, TVC, The Nation and so many uncountable properties within and outside Lagos. He also collects 10% of all revenue generated in Lagos, a state that is reputed as the 5th largest economy in Africa.

If only Bat is as selfless as Jakande, Lagos would have been competing with Johannesburg and Cairo in terms of advancement but his greediness won't allow him.

May God continue to bless the soul of Jakande!

He's talking about Lagos State Governors but you jumped to bring in the Premier, Pa Awolowo. You're trying to cleverly derail the thread and not want to give credit to Alhaji Lateef Jagande as the best Governor of Lagos as noted by OP. I'm very sure if he had said Tinubu is the father of Lagos you will immediately agree with him.
