Anambra State Government has re-introduced History in the school’s curriculum with effect from the next academic session.

This was made known by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh while interacting with Education Secretaries of Anglican and Catholic Dioceses in her office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

The commissioner said that History as a subject has made a comeback in schools but with a slight adjustment as the history of Igbo man dating from pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial eras has been included in the scheme.

“The present administration thought it wise to adopt this strategy because Igbo heritage is on the brink of extinction.

“Books on the subject will be out before the next academic session which begins in September this year.

“The present administration is looking at bringing wholesome and valued-based literature books to the classrooms; the next academic session will witness a lot of changes for the good of Anambra students and teachers”.

She lauded the churches’ involvement in education, saying that without Christianity there would be no restriction and discipline as the church helped to control man’s basal nature.

The Commissioner called for understanding amongst Christians irrespective of one’s denomination and the need to respect our differences so that the Christian community would not be torn apart by unnecessary internal bickering.

“Christians are to abide by the biblical injunction in the book of Isaiah and put away disparities, come together as a body and with one voice call on God’s interventions in the state of affairs in Nigeria” she said.

It was the Federal Government under PMB that approved its re-introduction actually, not HE Soludo that got into office just few weeks ago wink

In 2018, the Federal Government unveiled a new curriculum for the teaching and learning of the subject (history) in basic schools across the country. The new curriculum was approved at the 63rd meeting of the NCE, which held in Kano in June 2017.

If this is the case the federal government must be held responsible for banning it in the first place, who ever banned has a hand in the problem of Nigeria

The controversial ones where leading to needless blood letting and communal strifes.

Some history and part of history were dubiously revised for political reasons soon as states started emerging and each traditional ruler wants to dominate its state. It almost happened in Lagos too until the incumbent Oba of Lagos had to quickly declare that Eko is Yorubaland.

Some were outrightly obnoxious that it justifies de-humanization of others like in the Osu caste system and when some are re-classified as slaves/settlers in their own land like the Effium and Ezza in Ebonyi. There are many like that all over the country.

This misleading headline of this thread is one way of how history is being dubiously revised. It is actually correct to say that it is PMB who re-introduced History back into school not Soludo who was just elected few weeks ago years after PMB reintroduced it into schools.

Very important.

Some of the modern parents are an absolute failure.

80% of them their children can't speak Igbo.

This is a great idea, worthy of commendation. This idea should be replicated all over Nigeria. State and national history needs to be taught in all our educational institutions. By teaching history, it helps build patriotic citizens… which Nigeria is currently yearning for.

Nice one. Many people are completely unaware of their history. That's why some people keep shouting that they are not igbos, despite the fact that they speak igboid languages
