Many people think that lying is not wrong if it does not harm anyone. Many believe that there is no real harm in so-called little white lies. Is this true? Are there occasions when Christians may be justified in telling a lie? What does the Bible say?

Psalms 5:6 says "You will destroy those who speak lies. Jehovah detests violent and deceptive people." Proverbs 6:16-19 also makes it clear. It lists seven things that Jehovah detests. “A lying tongue” and “a false witness who lies with every breathe ” are prominently included in this list. Why? Because Jehovah hates the harm lying causes. That is one reason why Jesus called Satan a liar and a manslayer at John 8:44. His lies plunged humanity into misery and death. Apostle Paul told Christians at Colossians 3:9a --Do not lie to one another.

So, it is clear from the Bible verses that God hates lies and will destroy those that lie. Christians should always say the truth,no matter the situation.Of course, being truthful does not mean that we are obligated to divulge all information to anyone who asks it of us. It is better not to say anything or divert the conversation to another direction. Lying can never be justified.

you lie to your kid to make sense.

Also, If you know that your friend wants to kill you and he ask which route you are taking to an outing, will you tell him the correct route?

Lying to do good is OK.

Exodus 1
19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”
20 So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous.
21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

Lying to do good is NOT Ok. The example you cited, the midwives did not give a direct answer but deflected the conversation to another direction.
