According to Psychology Today, a recent study that will be published this year in the Child Development journal found that giving children more freedom to make their own decisions was connected with improved well-being for both parents and children, particularly during the epidemic.

Children who had more freedom did better emotionally, their own needs were met to a greater extent, and the family as a whole was more emotionally linked. During this time, it was discovered that parenting involving ‘option within specified limits seems to be ideal.’

Giving your child a right level of independence helps prepare them for adolescence. It is typical for parents to be uncertain about how much independence to allow their children, but the answer differs from person to person. How old is your child, how mature is he/she, how much family support does he/she have, what are their past experiences, and how responsibly they behave in a specific circumstance, among other factors? Often, children are adept at spotting genuine people or are unable to handle a particular circumstance owing to past traumas; in such cases, they require continual parental direction.
