Some Final year students of Kwara State College of Nursing, Oke Ode, have expressed dissatisfaction over being accommodated in unhygienic environment by the school management.

The 55 students nurses (44 females and 11 males), who are on their three weeks clinical posting to General Hospital Ilorin, said that, they were supposed to be at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Oke Oyi, for their practical procedures.




Some of the students in their utterances said, “we arrived Ilorin on Sunday and there’s no place for us to sleep. We were drenched by rain, some of our electronic gadgets spoil and all our efforts to contact the Provost who is our coodinator was in futile.”

“On Sunday night, the Muslims among us slept at the mosque of General Hospital Ilorin and the Christians slept in the Church of the Hospital.”

The students further revealed that, the Provost came on Monday to issued a building, which they said, does not have windows, doors, also lacks adequate water and electricity supply.

SHO PEN ONLINE correspondence, whose attention was drawn to the development, on Tuesday visited the building where the students were accommodated, located at Agbo Oba off Surulere in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

Our correspondence, gathered that the building is close to a drainage, in which refuses where dumped in.

However, the students under the condition of anonymity in their different utterances said, “This area is not convenient for us as a health practitioner, we use water coming out from the toilet to cook, look at refuse dumped there, its is harzadous to our health.”

“In this time of kidnappers, look, the windows are not covered, the doors are not good and the floor has no tiles, carpet or rug. We just lay our bed on bare floor to sleep.”

“Some of us have to sleep in the kitchen due to our population, more than 5 persons with their luggages managed to keep themselves in a room.”

Also, the students complained about the distance from their place of accommodation to the Hospital, saying that the distance might be hindering them from being present when they are on night shift.

The students in their numbers however, pleaded with Kwara state government and ministry of Tertiary education to intervene in the matter.

As at time of filing this report, efforts to reach the provost of the college was prove abortive.
