So if Peter Obi wins, you want him to keep paying subsidy that would have reached 8 trillion naira per annum by then...meaning he has to take loans to cover for the resulting deficit.

Subsidy should have gone since the 1990's, We no hear then, we don;t want to hear now.

Okay, subsidy should be removed and we will see how People will survive it, remember it hasn't been removed yet and economy is crumbling.

Buhari had the golden opportunity to end the subsidy and deregulate the price of petrol in January 2016 when the country experienced its worst fuel scarcity. 5he price of petrol was increased to ₦165 without a whimper from the public. The NLC urged a mass protest but the public was uninterested, simply relieved that petrol was flowing again.

It is a pity.

So you just deceived and scammed Nigerians with sweet promises to vote for you to become president...you said that fuel subsidy is a scam. that you will build refineries or repair the other existing refineries so that importation of fuel and paying of fuel subsidy will stop ...for 7 years till now you did not do it now you are passing the burden to another government instead of solving the problem as you promised nigerians... incompetent president

This man is a fraud and a disaster! He has destroyed Nigeria but God willing, Obi/Datti will fix it. Its a shame what he has done to Nigeria. Every genuine Nigerian should ensure he votes Peter Obi in 2023 to start rebuilding the country.

Country of commotion with useless leaders everywhere. They knew if they can get our refinaries working, there won’t be subsidy of any kind and price of this commodity will be reduced. Instead, u brought subsidy and its now killing the country.
Whoever govern next will continue same subsidy until u stop moving out product to refine and bring back b4 consumption. There is no 2 ways about it. U re not refining and u expect crude oil price to be cheap.
They just so heartless our leaders, they know what to do but they re feeding big from the subsidy. God punish all of them.

1.So why shouldn't our fuel consumption increase with our growing population, including population of young economically active adults that use, among other things, fuel.

2.How would fuel consumption remain static from 2012 to date? That's not possible.

3.Fuel costs N175 here, and over N400 in Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, and Chad, over N350 in Niger Republique. As a result smiuggling happens, and has happened for years...which is part of why fuel consumption is increasing like that

4.We can end all that by removing subsidy. But everytime governments have proposed total removal of subsidy, Nigerians like you say no.

Dude, I don't even support Tinubu . I even think he is as bad as Buhari. I also don't like Buhari. My hate for subsidy, and my support for its removal began around 2011/12

You have no answer to my points raised, so all you can do is call me a Tinubu supporter.

FYI...Tinubu supports subsidy. Like you do.

As for me, PDP, APC, LP....they can all go rest.

Subsidy has to go, whether you like it or not. And Tinubu and APC and Buhari too have to leave power. Their refusal to remove subsidy since 2015 is part of why we have issues in our economy.

Don't ever call me an APC or Tinubu supporter again.

And the economy is crumbling in part because subsidies have caused a huge deficit in the budget which forces us to take more loans.

Subsidy started when we had refineries. The reason why our refineries are not working was because subsidy made it unprofitable to refine petrol in this country...over the years.

In 1994, we refined most of the petrol we used in this country...by 2010, we were a net importer. Because subsidy.

You cannot refine fuel from crude, and then sell that same fuel at a price below the cost of refining that one liter. Just like if it cost you N500 to bake a loaf of bread, you will come and sell it at N150 ...

Ghana has two refineries. Fuel there costs N600 per liter. Niger has a working refinery...fuel costs N400 there. When you sell fuel at a profit, you get enough money to keep the refineries working, and attract investment.

May a milling stone be hung on the neck of all those who kept us in this mess for 8years.

Technically setting a land mine for the incoming government. No matter how you want to manage it, there will be massive initial inflationary shock for at least 2years.

The pain will be so massive that his 8years in government will now look good. This your chess move we have seen. Enjoy your immunity but for everyother person in your government must be held accountable.

We are ready for the surgery post PMB government without anaesthesia but our pain will birth a NEW NIGERIA that will shock them and the rest of the world.

Because most Nigerians...INCLUDING his supporters...want subsidy to stay.

That is why subsidy has never been totally removed in Nigeria. Most of you....YES YOU...don't want to pay market price for petrol.

If Buhari had removed subsidy totally in 2015...and in my opinion, he should...fuel would have cost N150 or more, and Nigerians would have called Buhari a wicked person.

In 2006, one of Obasanjo's ministers was called evil for suggesting subsidy removal

2011, GEJ tried to remove subsidy....see how most NIGERIANS...including some of his supporters reacted.

The same reaction has been seen time and again Nigeria government has tried to remove subsidy since the 1980's...that is why even people like Abacha dared not touch subsidy when in power.

So after all that, you think Buhari would come and remove subsidy?

People like me that support subsidy removal since 2011/12...we can talk about it anonymously here...not in public...

The truth is, if Peter Obi wins or even Atiku wins, or Tinubu wins..they will all keep subsidy. Because most Nigerians want it.

Buhari by the way never supported subsidy removal. He was campaigning on N40 fuel, which would have required more spending on subsides to achieve. It took our CBN governor and the then NNPC boss to make him see the sense in raising fuel prices from N87 to N145 because at the time, subsides on fuel had risen from N2 per liter in 2012 to N50 or more by June 2015.

Yes, most African countries do not have subsides on fuel, because if they did, their debts would grow way beyond what they can manage...and they would lose refining capacity.

Niger Republic is poorer than we are, yet they have a refinery, supplied by crude they produce ...and the fuel there is sold at N350 or more per liter. Because they cannot afford subsidy on fuel. So the refinery earns a mega profit...which enables it to run well. And to even export fuel to other African countries.
