Sleep + Other Small Changes You Can Make To Stay Alert... by planetpgold(m): 4:39pm On Aug 25, 2022
Timothy Here Again,

Obviously, sleeping at night or during the day has a lot of health benefits for the body. It helps boost our immune systems, reduce stress, and improve our mood. It helps us to think more clearly and do better in school and at work.

There is time to sleep, work, and study. So, you just must ensure that you do the right thing at the right time. In reality, it doesn't work that way. With different pressures from different angles ranging from job, career to family. Yet, we still have to sleep.

When it boils down to passing your ICAN Exams, the big question is? Why do you keep falling asleep when studying? In spite of all your effort to learn, you will always fall asleep. This is not always talked about. I have noticed lots of students struggling with this.

Frankly, your brain is probably telling you something. It’s more like this —you need more sleep.

The published amount of sleep we need depending on our age is about 7–9 hours. But, if you find yourself up most of the night studying, that may be the reason for feeling tired and slipping into dreamland as often as you do.

In addition to getting sufficient sleep, there are other small changes you can make that can help you stay focused and alert.

For example, you can:

1. Study new material early in the day: Doing complex cognitive tasks early in the day allows your brain to focus entirely on the problem at hand, with fewer distractions and more energy at your disposal.

2. Take a nap: According to research, a short nap mid-afternoon can improve memory, work performance, alertness, and overall mood. It can also help you remember things you learned earlier in the day as much as a full night’s sleep!

Remember to keep your nap under 30 minutes so you don’t feel groggy afterwards and mess up your sleep schedule. One 20-minute nap can make you feel well-rested and energized more than a cup of coffee.
