Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

The background story
Jesus had just cast out demons from those that were possessed of demons. Everyone was surprised they understood that this was a clear sign that Jesus was from God because this could only be done by those who were of God, It was a clear and undeniable sign of who Jesus, the pharisee had no excuse but they decided to make one up for themselves, they declared that Jesus was empowered by the prince of demons, beelzelbub. The problem with their thought was, how will Satan cast out Satan? How can his kingdom stand like that?

Second question was, by what means their sons, who cast out devils ( probably referring to those Jesus gave power to cast out devils) by what power do they cast out devils?

One should note the following,
1.This was about christ identity and status, without acknowledging Christ as the messiah one cannot believe on him
2. Evidence of Jesus being the messiah was presented clearly and undeniably.

3. This evidence was provided by the holy ghost in casting out devils.

4. The evidence was denied base on persistent unbelief.


The holy ghost is the one that convinces men of sin and convinces men that Jesus is the saviour.

John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

In Genesis 6 vv3
Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

The holy ghost is said to strive with humans.
But however the holy Spirit will not continue to do so forever.

The mention of shortening life span teaches us one thing that is, what the holy ghost does in striving with man is only for a short time. Throughout a man's life time, the holy Spirit does not stop to give them evidence of God's existence, so that perhaps they might seek God.

Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

What then is the sin and blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, and how is it different from other sins?
The sin against the Holy Ghost is a persistent rejection and hardening of heart against the work of the holy spirit in turning one to God.
It is a blasphemy to consider despised the Spirit of grace, meaning this means rejecting the evidence the holy spirit present about Jesus.

Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

The pharisees that attributed the power of the holy ghost to that of Satan is an example another example was Pharaoh.

Pharaoh asked for signs from the Lord for Moses, this was provided but pharoah called for the magicians of Pharaoh to do the same.

This was a clear rejection of the sign from the Lord by Pharaoh thus God hardened his heart.

The background story

It depends on what each individual thought regarding the Holy Spirit, if someone thinks the Holy Spirit is a person such an individual will have something else to say.

But based on my own understanding the Holy Spirit is the Active Force of God (as in my own God) this force is what moves God's servants into doing what God wants as in God's will.

So when God's active force is working on the person doing God's will {Act 2:4} anyone who doesn't understand what such a person is doing can speak against his actions after all the critic is talking due to his own experience after seeing something strange {Act 2:13} in this case the one mocking such actions is BLASPHEMING against men since what he saw and spoke against is unnatural.
But in case someone who knows God's will now reminds the critic that what he's seeing is the fulfilment of God's promise and that those acting are been moved by God's Active Force with regards to God's will {Act 2:16-18 compare to Joel 2:28} then the critics will come to their senses and plead for mercy {Act 2:37} Jesus is assuring us that they will be forgiven because they spoke thoughtlessly! Matthew 12:31-32

But in case someone knew very well that what he is criticizing in the actions of an imperfect human like himself is God's will and that such a thing could only be as a result of God's Active Force present in that vicinity yet he keeps on speaking against it whereas he can't find a better way to counter what God's Active Force is performing through imperfect humans. Then such a person is no longer sinning against the visible humans acting rather he is directly attacking God's Active Force that's working in the body of those visible humans.
Jesus is here telling us that such a critic will never be forgiven! Matthew 12:31-32

Exodus 8:15

The Israelities in the wilderness,

Psalms 95:8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

The Israelites in wilderness experience the power of God, right from day one leaving Egypt but they kept on persistent in unbelief till the holy ghost was grieved and destroyed the whole generation of unbelief.

Other sins, Like, stealing, lying, fornication, adultery or even persecuting Christians can be forgiven but a rejecting a clear evidence by the holy ghost to bring one to God is the sin against the Holy Ghost.

The evidence of that someone has sinned against the Holy Ghost is the contious hardening of their heart against God. Such persons continue in sin till the end, they will never turn to God in repentance.

How do I know I have not sinned gainst the holy ghost?
As long as you can still repent and turn to Jesus christ in faith then you have not sinned against the Holy Ghost but however don't delay.

A true Christian can never sin against the Holy Ghost.

1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

Anyone who refuse to rescieve the gospel despite the evidence presented to them, this is a not just an ordinary sin, might just be a sign that person has crossed the boundary already.

2 Thessalonians 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

God is the one that would subject them to be delusion.

Alot of people are on the brink of this, today in this world.
These people who sinned against the spirit of grace would be decieved by the antichrist and recieve his mark.

Anyone who rejects christ would while heartedly embrace the anti christ and the devil
because they shall be decieved.
