The ASUU strike which has crippled academic activities in government owned universities in the country for 200 days and counting is leading to a massive brain drain in the education sector. Apart from frustrating lecturers to the point of some of them willing to give out one their most prized possessions: their books, like this UNIMAID don here- https://www.nairaland.com/7235435/ASUU-strike-dr-abubakar-othman

Others have simply chosen to abandon Nigeria, the selfish and uncaring government, and her teeming mass of hapless students to their own devices. Recall that some days ago, the UNILAG’s ASUU chapter chairman, Dele Ashiru raised an alarm that 70% of their academic workforce retained through mentorship had resigned and relocated abroad. This resignations are not limited to UNILAG alone but other universities are also witnessing an exodus of their lecturers who have abandoned their professions as a way of coping with the months old strike. https://www.nairaland.com/7308352/unilag-leads-mass-resignation-lecturers

Muneer Yaqub, a PHd student in the diaspora and Tweeter shared a screenshot of a project supervisor announcing to his students that he has 'japa-ed'. To each his own, may God save all y'all.

Projects in the mud. What kind of country thrives with this kind of brain drain? They don't care about the hoi polloi, so you BATs and ObiDients better wake up and choose wisely for the sake of the upcoming generation.

I sure am glad I'm done with Nigerian schooling. Time wasters.

We keep voting the same set of repackaged criminals that have brought this country to the sorry state or currently is in. See as their followers are making noise on the internet, yet your young ones are at home idling away (some are Nairaland constituting nuisance) because your government has abandoned you. The biggest problem of Nigeria is Nigerians

We are the ones.

Who are our enemies.

Not just the ones we voted.

But us.

This dysfunctional nature that bedevils us which we claim is the fault of others and not us.

Just like what happened on this flight I was in which landed smoothly

And the pilot in his address, pleaded that no one should stand up from their seats until he gives the green light seat belt signal.

He went on to say that once he does that there should be a row by row disembarkation.

No sooner had he given the green light seat belt off signal that nearly every one stood up.

The pilot and the cabin crew pleaded for people to sit back down.

And no one paid them any attention.

They rushed.

They pushed.

They argued.

These were the same people who had been raining insults on the government and a particular political candidate as we all waited for the plane earlier at the terminal.

I sighed audibly where I sat.

And the Indian sitting next to me chuckled, before he said in this thick accent.

"I am yet to see an animal that can't be tamed or country where people can't be taught to follow rules. But Nigerians? Mission impossible."

It is only in Nigeria that it will be a looooong thing to re-aasign the students to a new Project supervisor. They will practically have to beg the school for this to happen.

When you look at the situation of Nigerian students, you will weep for what is actually happening.

Imagine the hopeless Apc dolts blaming previous government for ASUU strike but coming back to do worse.

Japa has come to stay for those who have the means but for the other 99% we will strive to the finish line.

Human beings are powerful and Can adapt to anything that's why we are moving on as we match to enthrone a government that cares for it's people.

We are Obidient to this call until this flag is raised so high.

Exactly. On a normal day, some students are supervised by proxy.

Well this is true in its entirety. What beat the sweet Jesus out of me, is how this same set of wayward and backward set of Nigerians, always believe it is their God given right to break rules.

I believe the majority of Nigerians don't want this country to be great, because if the country becomes great, they won't have the time and place to misbehave, this is why they do everything in their power to make sure the status quo remains the same.

After I read a comment in the letter Iyabo Obasanjo wrote to him during the 4th Republic, where she said, Nigeria is design in the way that geniuses are meant to bow before morons, then I know why this country is in this abysmal state. Ignorance is celebrated. Immorality is glorified, corruption is a virtue and worse still, honesty is a vice. How can a country with dubious moral compass be great.

It really is a shame the way we Nigerians are killing the country.

We see the education legacy of APC in action!

The same is happening in the medical field, most medical professionals are japaing without looking backwards.

I guess APC plan is to send Nigeria back to antiquities.

Projects in the mud. What kind of country thrives with this kind of brain drain? They don't care about the hoi polloi, so you BATs and ObiDients better wake up and choose wisely for the sake of the upcoming generation.

Okay, Ishi. Do you have a better candidate in mind that you think will lead this country well? I don't get this part... other than Atiku, Obi and Tinubu, who do you think is competent, because you said *we* should like, insinuating that we are still somehow sleeping abi? Like we still don't know right? Like the majority of people still don't know better or know well? And it seems like you're well learned and knowledgeable about everything, as you have chosen to maintain a neutrality above all of the decision and pitching of tents with a camp other people are doing, so how should we vote wisely or who should we vocal electorate vote for? 'Cause that sound condescending as heck to me, and note I am not speaking because of my support of any candidate here. If you can address me without putting that into consideration, I'll appreciate it. I mean, you think Obidients still should vote wisely. Okay. You also think BATIKUs too should vote wisely, so I am just wondering if you think NONE of the supporters have a credible candidate, who is your choice? How much more wise(r) can we get? Does the right candidate exist outside of those three? But then you believe all politicians are corrupt and are the same, so like, like what should we do? How do you think we can get things right if all options are rotten? Because I sure know criticising and criticising and criticising without an equivalent provision of a viable solution instead too will not get anything done.

And maybe I read too much in this part, but you said, "you people should better vote wisely." grin You nko? Why did you single yourself out? No, it is your choice to exercise your right or not, but you cannot choose to overtly and expressly shun political participation, while knowing that the growth, development, etc., of the country rests on the electorate and you're telling us (OBATIKUs) to go and choose well.

Reading criticisms from people who condemn active participation as much as political apathy is just... do you believe in the country or not? Do you think Nigeria can be better or not? People will either vote or not vote, and the choice will affect everyone. So you criticise the government, and then the people who will take part in changing the government, you're criticising them too. So I really mean no offense and I sincerely hope you won't take this this wrong way: what should we do? If you have the power and all, what would you do? Differently? If you are not in favour of any candidate, then that means you wouldn't vote? Then if you wouldn't vote (and will not campaign, etc) that is one power I know you have as a citizen that you're giving up. And again, I get if you want to choose to give that up, but my point is, why will you willingly give that power up and still expect others to do something right?

I think I have seen you say something like "This is Nigeria." If "this is Nigeria", then why do you still somehow think our votes may count? If you think this is Nigeria, or anyone else who thinks so should not still act like voting means anything. If you don't hold this opinion, it's fine. Let others read and see.

And you're not the only one, I see so many people, even one of my beloved musical icon criticise the state of affairs in Nigeria and how the "rest of the people" are dumb and sheeple and XYZ who don't know right and only participate in political dramas every four years and it makes me wild, yunno? grin Okay, what would you do differently? What would you do better? Are you participating in politics? If there are other ways of turning a country around for good, are you, as a non-partisan, exploring it? If you think that with the current political atmosphere in the country, Nigerians are still sleeping, what are the conditions to be met then that will make you see that people are awake? Shey as far as you are concerned, we are still sleeping as much as we were sleeping 5-10 to 16 years ago? So outside of our political culture as it is, what other alternatives do you think are there?

At least, I know some people who have not openly declared their support for a candidate, and they are still maintaining that mum decision ever since...they do not dabble into 5% of politics, but I have seen you a number of times express your disapproval for our political culture. Criticising EVERYONE. You just cannot criticise the populace voting choices, criticising the unproductivity of an apathetic populace and still wave a "I am not involving myself in anything political" flag over your head. Doesn't look to me like that should be done anywhere.

The lecturer be like...... When you were voting for candidates based on tribe and religion... Didn't you know it will backfire?

Come. 2023, they will still repeat the same thing, this time around, the strike might last for 3 years, during that 3 years, the president will be in coma in a German hospital for 8 months and they will still be praying to God to change the direction of the country.

So sad..

If the said students are undergraduate....it may not matter much as they will be distributed for new supervisors just to allow my people go..

If they are postgraduate students...This will be a huge blow to their study, because, even, if they assign them new supervisors or the already existing co-supervisor takes over....the new supervisors can redesign the research or outrightly ask them to start entirely new research, especially if what they are doing is not the new supervisor areas of interest.

Nigeria don happen to them!
