Lease i will like to ask between using Salt, Sand or Garri which is the best for roasting groundnut (peanut) at home kitchen?

Among the three options of roasting groundnuts in Nigeria, which one give the best result in terms of quality and taste? I need your opinions.

Use Garri. Salt will make it too salty while sand will incorporate sand and dust into the groundnuts.

Why not? It will even make it very dry and good for drinking. Just make sure you don't get it burnt. Medium heat and constant stiring will keep the garri in good shape.

Never knew garri is used for frying groundnut.

It is sand o. Garri ke. Not just sand but white sand found in Niger Delta or part of Lagos that is very tiny. Don't go and use normal sand that may not filter away when you are seperating the sand from the groundnut.

I want to test run it for roasted nuts business on a manual scale to see the market acceptance firstly before acquiring an industrial oven for the business.

Yes its easy to sieve. Just pour into a sieve and shake, the garri will come off.

Or you can simply put the groundnuts alone in a shallow pan and roast for about 30 minutes in an oven at about 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Nope, it becomes only useful for frying groundnuts and change it when it turns dark.

I prefer using garri as I have sensitive teeth and can taste the smallest grain of sand hence I prefer frying my groundnuts my self.

I’ve not tried using salt, might give it a try some day.

I prefer using the ijebu garri that has less lumps and I sieve the garri first after buying before using to fry and it helps to separate easily after frying.

Remember, continued usage makes the garri dark and it will show as tiny black dots on the groundnuts sometimes, if you are selling you will have to change the garri and worthy of mention fried nuts tastes differently from oven roasted and most peeps don’t like oven roasted nuts.

This is worrying. That means garri method is not cost effective compared to the other options if it can't be recycled for roasting.

Garri is not bad.
But if U can get fine particles of neat sandy soil, free of dirt & also dry, use it

salt to fry groundnut? this is the first time I've heard about it.
