More often than not this season, I've continuously expressed my worry as to how Thomas Tuchel has become over irrational with his team selection and fairness in terms of giving the players a equal chance. When Tuchel became Chelsea's manager about 600 days ago, nobody saw the team becoming a force to reckon with under a short period of time. Tuchel had made a monster out of a team that seem too ordinary under club hero, frank Lampard. In his first 50 games in charge, Chelsea conceded just 24 goals and in the process, won the highly talked about UEFA champions league. A competition Thay won having conceded just 4 goals. Coming into the 2021/2022 season, Chelsea started as one of the favourites to win a large number of trophies across Europe and such momentum, saw them climb quickly as table toppers in the EPL until around Nov/Dec last year. The genesis of Tuchel's down fall started with him benching club record signing Romelu Lukaku for a weak and less productive Kai Harvertz. Tuchel made known, his love for the kid perhaps, because he scored the only goal of the champions league final against Manchester City. Fellow German Timo Werner, and other highly talented players like Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic who are known for their ability to provide goals also saw limited playing time while Mount, Harvertz and Jorginho continued to play despite being unproductive in the team. This saw Chelsea loose great form and slipped down from 1st to 5th in 4weeks largely due to terrible selection process and most importantly, playing players out of their position. A thread that saw Chelsea loose the Carling and F.A cup finals to bitter rivals Liverpool. The Club's consolation was the World Club Cup trophy and the UEFA Super Cup trophies. Coming into the new season, the coach sent away Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner without signing an idea striker as he was too comfortable using a below average player like Kai Harvertz as his top most striker in the same League that has an Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Gabriel Jesus. The resultant is Chelsea's pathetic form and start to the new season despite management spending huge in the transfer window. Tuchel didn't see the window ad an opportunity to bridge the gap in his attacking and mildfield positions, he would however spend millions procuring defenders to an already over occupied team of defenders. The team this season have gone from bad to worse with Tuchel prioritizing the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Harvertz and Jorginho over anybody else despite the obvious that all three have lost form as Jorginho and Harvertz have never been good players from the onset. The terrible run of form is a consequence of Tuchel's decision to continually play players out of their position. How do you explain that a weak and lazy Kai Harvertz is Chelsea's striker? That's too much of a comedy. Chelsea fans should applaud the coach for his good works but then, in recent times, Tuchel has lost his touch of excellence and he deserves to rest his brain.
