The Ondo State Government has reportedly threatened to clamp down on a radio station – Adaba FM Radio, over what the state tagged “uncomplimentary attacks.”

The radio station which is believed to be owned by the former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu serves as the mouthpiece for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state. Reports had it that the State Security Service (SSS), at the instance of the state government, invited the General Manager of the station over what was described as “uncomplimentary attacks on the government of the day”.

The GM, Mr. Martin Ayoola, was said to have met with the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, but the details of the meeting were not revealed by our source, but the GM was said to have summoned a meeting with presenters, who are sympathetic with the cause of the ACN in the state. But it was gathered that Mimiko during his meeting with the Adaba FM boss, handed warning to the GM threatening to deal with the management, if the station continued with the uncomplimentary attack” on his administration especially with granting of interviews to ACN stalwarts on various programmes aired on the station.

May be becouse Mimiko refused to join ACN that is the reason why Tinubu's radio is attacking his govt. Tinubu is becoming too despirate, he should tread with caution. Political crook.

He can also use the state media to attack ACN. As long as the attacks will not destabilize the state then i think nothing is wrong with that.

Mimiko has missed it here.Is he running an Authoritarian government or a Democratic one? He should be careful not to allow Political tricks get him on people's bad side.He is equally free to own his own station or air his own views. Its democracy and there is freedom of speech and expression.Let the indegenes be the final judge.

I pity this Mimiko man, he is probably banking on the support he/labour party gave to GEJ during the presidential election. He had better sit up and let his good works fight for him. Otherwise, PDP will use him and dump him. Ask Lam Adesina (Obasanjo's Second Term Campaigner turned victim).
Re: Mimiko Threatens To Shut Down Tinubu's Radio Station by HIROSHI: 1:23pm On Aug 10, 2011
Mr Mimiko, you don't fight Mr Tinubu by thuggery you will not win him that way (he is familiar with that terrain).

The only way to fight your way through is to work in a distinguished manner that speaks out loud and clear for you. That was what Mr Fashola used to rescue himself from what would have been roforofo fight in Lagos over second term.
Re: Mimiko Threatens To Shut Down Tinubu's Radio Station by edogirl2: 1:30pm On Aug 10, 2011
Truth is, Mimiko is feeling the heat for the first time since he came to power. Right up to the last election, he rode like an untouchable giant in the state's political terrain, and no one was surprised when Labour swept the National & House of Assembly elections, bar one House of Rep that went to PDP. Everything Mimiko touched turned into gold and ACN won no single seat accross the state.

Since the elections however, shadowy groups of well educated communicators have been coming on the airwaves at Adaba (by far the most popular station in the state) to slowly & steadily raise questions about the Labour administartion.

When this started 2 -3 months ago, no one batted an eyelid - they were thought to be wasting their time, since Mimiko popularly known as 'Iroko'
was so popular, it was thought next yr's guber elections would be a formality. Then came the big thumping heavyweight fist of the ACN god - Messrs Tinubu.

First, a rumour swept the state that Tinubu was building a mansion in Akure in preparation for next yr's governorship election battle. Couple of weeks later, another rumour swept the state that Tinubu was coming with billions. Some might doubt it, but folks in sleepy states like Ondo are a rather modest lot - they genuinely believe Tinubu is an evil genius who can turn water to wine grin grin grin

Now, if you ask the same people who, a few months ago thought Mimiko was guaranteed a second term, whether the Acn has a good chance, they will tell you - hmn, my brother we think Mimiko will win, but with this Tinubu guy, hmn, anything can happen o grin grin

I still think Mimiko will win.

see wahala o! some commentators are just being unreasonable! when did it become a crime to solicit support for one's party? this is democracy at work, stop castigating Tinubu for God's sake, was Mimiko not jumping in and out of Akoko for his senatorial candidate during the last election? did they not bring in the whole govt app. for their candidates? if he is complaining now, NL's should know better that this is simply a case of politicking, chikena, it is part of what brought him to power too! The support of Tinubu's Adaba.

Some commentator should just go and find something worthwhile to do with their time

I don't see why Ondo needs to become ACN. Mimiko is performing, from what I'm told by folks who live there. If this is true, then for what reason should he go?

As others have stated though, Mimiko needs to understand that shutting down the voice of the opposition is anti-democratic.

Although,I don't believe the story but if it is true, let the Governor shut up.Why?ADABA FM was the station that championed he cause during Agagu regime.I could recollect that this station helped him to battered image of the then govt beyond repair. To mimiko then,it was a good job.Let him also see it in this way too now because what goes around, comes around.

Hope this is not the beginning of another Do or Die politics in Ondo state. I want to assume the shutting down of Adaba station own to whoever is anti democratic. He(Mimiko) is quick to forget things. He dismised his cabinet because he suspected that some of his commissioner are wining and dining with ACN. He needs to embrace the truth, strategise very well for him to retain the seat next election. shocked shocked . He must know that the roof is leaking and needed to be blocked. "Gragra no go do am". He should let his performance speak for him. Yoruba nation is one and not two. IT'S Injury one, injury all.

Also, there's been some kind of media war (via propaganda adverts) going on in the airwaves for about 6 weeks now, particularly on this same Adaba.

Here's a summary of ACN's advert - Starts with: Eyin Omo Oodua, dua, dua (echo) Then something along the lines of - eminent Oodua indegines came together to form their own party (egbe tiwan tiwa) so we could all defend our people & values against insatiable vultures grin (my own interpretation). It ends along the lines of e ma ma je won ko wa lo ko eru (don't let them enslave us) grin grin

Here's the Labour version - Eying Omo ipinle Ondo, do, do (echo again grin) Beware of people whose only interest is to get their hands on our resources. Eranti pe awa la ni ohun ribibi ju ni ile Yoruba (Remember Ondo State is blessed with the most natural resources in Yorubaland. Eranti ti pe awa lan ni Koko ju ni orile de naijiria (Also rememeber we are the largest producer of Cocoa in Nigeria) Sugbon ni ojo eyinwa nigba ti won fe ko Koko House, sebi Ibadan ni won ko si (However, when they wanted to build Cocoa House, they built it in Ibadan, rather than in our state.

Both adverts run on Adaba virtually every 30mins within a few mins interval of each other and this has been going on for several weeks. Both parties must be spending a fortune on these things, and the election is still more than a yr away.

Mimiko has been spending a lot of money, like the ACN, on Adaba, and sending his henchmen to attack and respond to the alledged attacks from the ACN. I'm not sure why he's complaining now.

On a pan-Yoruba level, it is interesting to see labour trying to use a 'them' and 'us' approach to awaken the indegines' fear about being dominated by Lagos, Ogun, and to a lesser extent Oyo with the risk that their resources (oil, bitumen, Cocoa will be used to develop these other states.

All said, Mimiko appears to be doing well in the state. ACN should see Labour as a sister party & they should be collaborating . ACN does not need to win Ondo state by all means.

Same Adaba fm used propaganda to cause disaffection in the state against Agagu and Mimiko was the beneficiary.
Mimiko should welcome his own nemesis of misrepresentation.

This mimiko guy is a freaking retard. If what the presenters on the radio station are saying are proven lies, sue them for libel or slander. If they are telling the people the truth, then there's nothing you can do. Does he expect the station to give him the list of prospective interviewees for vetting? Then he's a joker. He cannot carry out that threat. He cannot do more than a dead rat.

Mmiko is using his position very well. eating from both sides

The PDP can use Ondo as their launch pad for the SW so they have to be sweet with him

and

He can also use his location in the SW to fend of the ACN so they wont see him as a threat/competition
Re: Mimiko Threatens To Shut Down Tinubu's Radio Station by edogirl2: 6:56pm On Aug 10, 2011
I dont see how the presenters are the problem.

Adaba has a couple or so political programes each week, and they invite both govt's officials and the opposing side. Each gets same amount of time, though they dont sem to agree to appear at the same time.

I listened to some of these programs and the Adaba presenter was always butting in and at pains to stop any form of personal attack on the governor or his officials. He just doesnt allow it. Same goes when the gov't side come on. He insist they address policy no people. I understand the presenters do try to be fair to both sides, but my source could be wrong.

The problem is that these shadowy organisations (they never claim they are ACN) come to the program with amazing details and insight, the type that only someone close to the inner workings of govt would know. This has been putting the govt on the defence, and it happens week after week.

I understand that details disclosed in a recent program (about 2 weeks ago) left Mimiko furious and convinced that some members of his cabinet must be leaking information to ACN. Guess what, the program aired on a Thursday, and Mimiko dessolved his entire 2-yr old cabinet on Friday. There were rumours he planned on dissolving the cabinet anyway, but I learnt the leak in the recent program was the final staw.

This is like a heavyweight boxing fight where the overwhelming favourite is receiving persistent little jabs from the other guy. Nothing too serious to knock him down, but the jabs are persistent enough for the betting odds to start falling round after round. In the end the favourite will prob win, but boy, will he know that he has been in a fight.

Mimiko' problem is that even as a sitting governor, he may not be able to outspend Messrs Tinubu. Must be a big headache for him.
