Like most things and systems we are trying desperately to copy without getting the foundation properly set, this will continue to be our story as a people and country.

Even the democracy we purport to be practicing is at best a demonstration of craziness in comparison to where and what we copied from.

How do you intend to build a house starting from the roof?

Or why would a house without a proper foundation stand?

We have a very very long way to go.

No fuel or energy source to power trains.
Disposable income in the hands of citizens=zero thus, rendering such a train ride a luxury to the poor citizens.

In fact....

When government raised the price of diesel from 200 naira to 1000naira, they thought it will only affects the less privilege. Now their obnoxious policy is also affecting their businesses.

Train should always be the cheapest means of transportation, I have once traveled via train from Ilorin to Ibadan at 350 in 2012 , I don’t know how much is gonna cost with this Buhari new train .

They just want to count it as an achievement while over looking the sustainability of the project. That is the main reason why lot of our infrastructures are in comatose coupled with the political will of administrations to continue their predecessors project.

This is the same route that some said the fare was on the high side compared to the Abuja kaduna route. How come they can't break even now. Something is not adding up.

I wonder what will happen when the Lagos state government Introduces bus on that route.

Not speed trains. They are just faster than planes( if u add boarding time , checkin time ,and check out ) reason it makes sense

Google sha

According to Google

Usually, planes are faster than trains ,
but if a plane flies very slow and a train
moves very fast, they can travel at the
same speed. That's exactly what
happened when the French rail service
opened up a new high-speed rail line.

I remember predicting this thing ...years back .. infrastructure doesn't really kick start development it complement it this was what Peter Obi was arguing with osibanjo in 2019 now see the results

Speed rails are too expensive to run can never break even in a country as poor as we for now !!!!
What we needed was effective locomotive rail from Ibadan to the ports in Lagos to move containers

$150 million would have achieved that

Their is a rail from warri to lokoja ...it should have been locomotive from warri port to Abuja , with branch off to Onitsha and imo state
From onne to aba then to Enugu then to Jos and Maiduguri
All the Above can be achieved with 600 million dollars max if we have an effective government

1.5 billion dollars wasted I mean over 1 trillion Naira

If proforce and innoson where given 100 billion each to expand production they would have employed twice what this rail line would employ

1 billion to 100 cocoa clusters to build cocoa processing plants ban exportation of raw cocoa we only export cocoa powder and butter with would double value in a taxable business

This are the simple things Peter Obi is talking about ...we don't have much but we can effectively use what we have better

So today it's obvious Peter Obi was right osibanjo was wrong ....won't you still vote Peter Obi ?
and Obi have not stop saying it I have watched his recent interview saying the same thing, development starters from human being then infrastructure, you don't live human being behind to build infrastructure that they don't need or can't use

Let's build Refineries and refine 90% of our crude for domestic and for exports. This can quickly revive our economy and put the youths out of the street.

Before you guys type mumbo-jumbo, try to reason for yourselves for once. That rail project is an outdated and overdue infrastructure, something you can never find anymore in developed countries.

The major reason why they seem to be running at a loss is low patronage and the current price of diesel, nothing else.

There is no country in the world where government-owned transport infrastructure is seen as strictly for-profit, it's meant to ease the lives of citizens and facilitate movement of goods and services in the country, the ripple effects are then a good business/trading ecosystem and creation of jobs which would lead to more taxes for the government.

That explanation you gave above is too myopic and limited in scope.

No aspect of governances thrives in isolation. The rail will not be patronized if it isn't secure. I will rather take chances with a small bus of a private transport company looking to impress than trust govt that will just issue statements. As for diesel cost, they knew it was deregulated before starting. No excuses.

It seems things has been in comatose in NRC since Amaechi left. Hmmn Hausa has taken over...expect redundancy. That's their trade mark wherever they head.

Amaechi was already compromised so he kept on pushing for the project execution, even when he knew that the enabling frameworks were not in place.

Remember when Abuja-Kaduna train passengers were kidnapped? It was discovered that there were more passengers not on the manifest than those in it.
1000 passengers enter train and all buy tickets. 300 tickets are remitted and 700 pocketed.
That's also how our airline died, our refineries, our ships etc etc
Corruption will be the end of us all
Industrial grade corruption would be the end of this country.

The corruption is so great that it threatens our very lives.

We need to clear the swamp on a large scale as soon as possible to salvage this country from collapse.
We cannot afford any body without Integrity to take over.

It will finish us all.

You're right, insecurity has been a big challenge for them as well. I was just correcting the notion that the rail infrastructure was inessential or unnecessary, when it is, in fact, overdue. There is an interconnectivity of things having multiplier effects on each other, just like I explained mine above.

The government needs to fix the security issues cos it's killing every other thing, including FDI, agriculture and movement of people around the country.

The corruption in dis country is freaking staggering, so the so called biggest importer of oil in Nigeria NNPC can't provide a good supply of diseal for NRC and cut all these middle men?..

with how these incompetent people are talking is like they are buying even more expensive diesel than what's being found at filling stations.

Is it insecurity that is stealing our crude oil in super tankers?

Other oil countries don't even know what to do withmoney again.
The money is too much thanks to Russia and Ukraine war.

Is it insecurity that made Nigeria broke and cannot account for 70% of oil production?

The Insecurity in Nigeria is a by-product of ineptitude and corrosive corruption.
And it is getting worse as corruption get worse.
