AC Milan, Inter agree to demolish San Siro for new £1 billion stadium

Italian clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan have decided to tear down their shared, storied Giuseppe Meazza stadium in order to make room for a new home field.

The Serie A powerhouses have agreed to totally renovate the well-known San Siro so that a brand-new stadium called “The Cathedral” may be built there and be operational by 2027, according to numerous publications on Tuesday.

Originally, it was planned to leave some parts of the existing stadium untouched to make room for the new stadium, but things have changed now that ‘The Cathedral’ will be constructed on the exact spot where the San Siro once stood. The project is expected to cost up to £1 billion.

The Milan Municipality owns San Siro, which has a capacity to hold up to 80,018 people simultaneously.

For the past 75 years, AC Milan and Inter have called the stadium home. On occasion, the Italian national team also plays there.

The stadium has hosted concerts by a number of great musicians, including Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Madonna, and Bob Marley and The Wailers.

The stadium has also hosted other sporting events like boxing and an 80,000-person rugby union match between Italy and New Zealand.

The opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics will take place in San Siro, which will then be demolished. This is an important event.
