Court Strikes Out Nans Lawsuit Against ASUU by Kareola21: 3:07pm On Sep 27, 2022
A lawsuit filed by Umar Lawal, the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, requesting that the Academic Staff Union of Universities end its seven-month strike and resume classes has been dismissed by Justice Polycarp Hamman of the National Industrial Court in Abuja.

On his own own and on behalf of the association, Lawal had filed the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was dismissed on Tuesday by the presiding judge after Lawal’s attorney, Debo Ikuesan, withdrew it on the grounds that the student body was contesting his election as president and denied that he was in charge of NANS as he had testified.

They are requesting a court ruling that would, among other things, tell ASUU to end its strike. A court order preventing ASUU and its members from continuing the industrial action they started is another request they are making.

Umar Lawal does not have the authority from NANS to start the action, according to Sunday Asefon, the outgoing president of the student body, who had filed a court petition. He said that NANS National President Umar Lawal had run for but lost the seat.

The attorney for Umar Farouk requested that the case be dismissed due to the objection raised by the student body; Mister Abubakar Marshall, the attorney for ASUU, did not object to this request.
