How Can I Further With A Third Class? by Itooweak4una: 7:35am On Oct 02, 2022 |
Good day nairalanders I'm a third class graduate in philosophy. I only choose to study to study the course after several failed attempt to study my desired course despite having a good jamb score. It was when my school changed my preferred course to philosophy i knew for the first time in my that philosophy is being studied in the university. I have been waiting long for admission and I don't want to keep staying home so i accepted it but after my first year i began to lose interest in the course and i got depressed. It really affected me mentally. Hence the poor grade. Now, I'm 25 years currently serving and I am aware that the possibility of me ever getting a good job with that kind of certificate is highly slim especially with philosophy as my discipline. My mum has been asking me what is my plans after service and I am confused myself. Although, I have learn photography and I'm quite good at it but i haven't started earning from it. Besides, my mum is someone that values certificate over skills. So, she has been asking me if i can go for masters with my result which i usually assure her that it's possible. The reason i bought this here is because she wants me to do the masters abroad (if possible Uk). Personally i want to do the masters in another course, preferably mass communication. So, I want to know if it's possible. How can i go about it? Which country is it best for me to go study? And aside from all these what else can i do as a third class graduate? I'll be rounding up my service next year February. I am really confused on what to do next. Thank you 1 Like |

You get luck die.... All you need is to check the universities you'd love to do your masters and their requirements online.... possibly email a couple of them. You'll get the replies and satisfying ones.... 2 Likes |

It's good she wants to sponsor your master's in the UK. But one thing you have to remember is that it's not just about doing your master's over there, you also have to make sure you study a relevant course to enable you get work visa sponsorship from companies after your degree. So it won't be like after spending all that money for your master's, you'd come back to Nigeria and start hustling for jobs again. I'm saying this because of the course you want to go and study; mass communication. Except you have no intention of living there and you'd want to come back to Nigeria after your studies. To me, if you want to spend that money in the UK, you might as well make it count, look for a good course that will help you get work sponsorship. If not it's better to stay in Nigeria and do that course in a good federal university. 3 Likes |

Itooweak4una: For an art student I will suggest you study a language course probably French, Dutch or English language. You can easily get a job placement abroad or comeback to Nigeria to work as an academia or open a language school with embassy affiliations. Language (French) teachers are highly sort after in Nigeria too. Goodluck in your quest 2 Likes |

Itooweak4una:I understand you perfectly bro. I graduated with a third class too (English and literary studies) And considering the lack of jobs in Nigeria, a third class is almost like a death sentence. I'm trying to "tech up" and I'd advise that you do the same. No one would give you a chance bro, even jobs that set aptitude tests for job applicants, won't even allow you sit for the test. Just try as much as possible to attach more value to yourself, skill up and clean yourself up (that's what I'm trying to do myself), hopefully we get to turn out alright in life. Cheers 4 Likes |

I don't really see the need about feeling bad because you graduated with a third class. How many people do you know that are doing so well because they got a first class or a second class upper in Nigeria? I don't know anyone. Most of them are languishing in secondary schools earning peanut salary. Even if you got a first class and you get hired, how much do you think a company, organization, or government can pay you? Haven't you seen poor professors in Nigeria? Look, the only thing that can help you in Nigeria is skills. By skills, I don't mean learning some street skills that are so common. I mean learning some high-tech skills that you can monetize online. School degree isn't helping in Nigeria. It's total rubb!sh. In fact, I see the government of Nigeria begging her citizens to patronize her tertiary institutions in the near future because tertiary education here has proven to be almost useless. In the nearest future, many Nigerians would turn to learning skills instead of going to study some useless course in the university. Personally, I've made up my mind to make my children learn skills first before considering university. Let me tell you, some of the young people that EFCC are labeling fraudsters are actually tech guys earning massively online. Remember, the naira is one of the most weakest currencies in the world against the dollar. Don't disturb yourself about your course. Even if it was a first class, it would have still been useless in Nigeria directly or indirectly. What is philosophy? What is psychology? Most art courses in Nigeria universities are useless. You waste your time and energy doing nothing. Like someone suggested, go back to school and study some language related course. I think that's one of the few courses that make sense in art. However, I doubt you'll be able to learn and speak a foreign language by just depending on the university. But I will suggest you turn to tech and forget about the university, your philosophy, or masters. Forget about the UK. Forget about your mom. The good thing is that you still have time and you can start afresh. 2 Likes |

GeneralOjukwu: Confirming my opinion about you. By the way the person I know as earthly father is a useless, no good, Ogboni cultist and alcohol drinking failure I don't give a shît about his end. Same for the one calling herself his other half. But you are immature to mock OP without bothering to probe the circumstance of his academic struggles. |

RepoMan007: Negro.... on a serious note. Reconcile with your father. But on the hand, your estranged relationship with him might be responsible for your angst. |

GeneralOjukwu:It might be as you posited, and might not be. I won't waste time on 50/50 issue or telling you why I won't try reconciling with hardened non repentant ritualist. Even God in all His wisdom has no value for the unrepentant soul. For you to try and mock without probing circumstances of his result says more about you than anyone here. We are inna country with schools where victimization isn't a hidden practice. What about strange blank out during exams? Or unexplainable addiction? Or psychological warfares of the mind. 1 Like |

RepoMan007: Repay Evil with Good. Virtually everyone has people close to them, even siblings who have tried to make life miserable for them. Repay your dad with good, ignore his attacks. Leave him to be negligent with his duty to you as a father but don't follow his example and repay him in his own coin. 1 Like |

GeneralOjukwu:I don't need your equally immature advise. Keep them. Just know one thing, in warfare or battlefield is not the place to do good to an adversary. There are one time, irreversible offenses and there is warfare or continuous and deliberate offensive, which is not guaranteed to stop. 1 Like |
