Court Orders FG And ASUU To Make Out Of Court Settlement The court of appeal in Abuja on Wednesday has ordered the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to bury their hatchets by setting their tussle amicably. The verdict was made earlier today in an ongoing legal tussle between the FG and ASUU. The judge made the verdict that both parties should settle for the out of court settlement for the interest of Nigerian students. The legal tussle began when the Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige filed a suit against the ASUU in the industrial court against the protracted ASUU strike. The industrial court verdict came out against the ASUU and ordered the recalcitrant union to resume academic activities on campuses which has been halted for more than seven months. However, instead for the ASUU to obey the court order, they filed an appeal to the federal court of appeal in Abuja, and obviously stated that they were not content with the verdict of the industrial court. It is no news that the ASUU has been on strike since February 14. The federal government has shown a deafening ear to the plight of ASUU and is not ready to bargain for anything against its decision. Likewise, the ASUU are becoming more adamant to press home their demands and are blindfoldedly insensitive to the pains undergone by an average Nigerian student. In the wake of the brouhaha, the federal government has registered two academic unions to resume academic activities on campuses.
