Since most of the people asking usually reside in the UK or in the USA, I decided to start a thread that seeks to know who goes home with the big cheese in those countries. I guess it might even help Nairalanders who are looking to pursue careers abroad. So house, who can help us out here? What are the top earning professions in the UK and the USA? Responses required. |

Looks like in the US, there is no point going there if you do not plan to study medical-related disciplines. ^^^ Don't be deceived by those figures, a trading associate in a mid size US Hedge fund can easily take home over a million dollars a year! No other paid profession is ever as well paid as Hedge Funds and PE, which is then followed by Investment Banking. . .consulting comes a distant fourth. All other professions probably pay peanuts when lined side by side! |

AjanleKoko: Yeah, you are right, with bonuses! The actual pay of a vice president could be anywhere around 250 k but his bonuses could be close to 750 k. They aren't probably always listed because it's one of the most controversial topics in the finance world. For instance, In early 2009 when the world was just emerging out of recession (or so it seems) some of the lowest paid associates received around 200 k in bonuses. . .how do you explain that to a tax payer whose taxes has just been used to bail out these banks that were deemed "too big to fail" from a problem they caused by themselves?. . .heads they win, tails the rest of the world loses! |

AjanleKoko: In fact, an entry level analyst at a decent investment bank, PE or HF earns as much as 42K pounds per annum as base pay, excluding bonuses and sign on fees O. As violet remarked, associates earn even much higher. Ask deenee to give you a range and you would be astonished. These associates usually have just at least three years work experience plus maybe MBA. Even naija investment banks pay competitively. |

I just stumbled on this thread and I'm surprised no one has made mention of telecommunication. Cisco certified network experts, Optical fibre specialists, RF specialists (the least paid in the pack I presume) earn 80k-150k USD per annum. |
