Russia is not interested in a full fledged war with Ukraine. If that was the objective, Kiev will be in ruins as we speak.
Putin knows very well that the West are trying to draw Russia into a bigger war in Ukraine akin to the Soviet war in Afghanistan. With Ukraines terrain, vast army and endless military supplies from NATO, such engagement will hobble down the Russians and provide pro western forces in Russia the opportunity and excuse to stage an uprising or even a coup.
All the West wants to do is to force Russia into a full deployment in Ukraine and then try to change leadership in Moscow. A full military engagement in Ukraine is the last thing Russia wants to do.
In the interim, zelensky will be kissing bombs
