The state was created out of old IMO state in 1996 by Abacha.

Abia was created the same time with Akwa Ibom, Delta and Bayelsa alongside other states in the north.

The state was administered by a military governor who governed from a military barrack up till 1999.

Since then , Orji Uzor Kalu has been billing the state rent for both the use of his property as the main govt lodge and office.

This is Igbo greed and corruption in action.
