Special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie has claimed, former governor of Lagos State, and All Progressives Congress (APC)'s presidential candidate in Nigeria's 2023 general elections, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stole public funds to the tune of $US1.1billion (which roughly amounts to more than 800 billion Naira currently.

She made the revealing allegation via her verified twitter handle @Laurestar while also naming other prominent politicians as culprits in the sleaze allegation. These include former president of Nigeria's senate, David Mark and former speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole.

Campaigns for 2023 general elections are kicking off in earnest and top of the agenda for most voters remain the widespread corruption, and some of which remain question marks over two of the front runners, Bola Tinubu, and Atiku Abubakar, who has also been fingered in various corruption scandals.

These seems to be an advantage for Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate who majority of the population, especially the youth believe is cut from a different fabric with little or nor dirt in his name. This has infact, led to a massive surge in a youth based political movement, who have now become Mr Obi's main political base.

Mr Obi has continued to gain a lot of momentum in the last few months after joining the Labour party from the main opposition party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in May, citing irregularities in the conduct of the primaries to nominate a presidential candidate. The Labour party flag bearer has been tipped to come out tops in the elections by numerous opinion and data polls, and is expected to cause massive upheaval in the elections in 2023.
