The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action conditionally, a member of the union’s National Executive Committee told Channels TV early Friday.

The union decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.

The Court of Appeal had ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.

Members of the union’s National Executive Committee, which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.

What a shame .
Guess PMBs government held ASUU by the jugular, hence they had no other option than to retreat.
Enough of toying with the future of the youths.
Everytime, strike , strike , strike.
Are they the only union affected by situation of the country since years past ?
Better to jaw jaw than war war.
They should have waited for FG to proscribe the union and arrest the leaders for contempt of court.
The breakfast would have been sweet.
Hope they won't get paid for awoof 8 months of doing nothing ?

If the Memorandum of Understanding signed over a decade ago is fraudulent, then the government should beat their chest and reverse it or propose a better one.

But failing to honour such agreement, expecting the lecturers and school to make sacrifices that the leaders themselves are not willing to make is just petty.

ASUU have lost sympathy from Nigerians. We now see them for the greedy, corrupt, Lazy and sex for grade, Lecturers that they are.
