ABUJA- The professors of the country’s public institutions have terminated their eight-month-long protest against the federal administration.

The decision, which has not yet been officially revealed to the public, was made at a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the lecturers’ union under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Friday morning in Abuja.

According to a source at the meeting conducted at the ASUU national secretariat on the grounds of the University of Abuja, the strike was provisionally suspended.

The conference, which began Thursday evening and continued into Friday morning, was attended by all state and zonal branch executive members of the union.

The purpose of the union’s gathering
was to discuss recent events, particularly the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which required the union to comply with the earlier order of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, NICN, by stopping industrial action before appealing the trial court’s ruling.

The decision was made at the conclusion of the National Executive Council meeting held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja, however the union has yet to make an official announcement.

A knowledgeable source within the NEC confirmed this, “Yes, it has been canceled.”

When pushed for additional information, the source stated, “The president will issue an official circular tomorrow morning.”

According to reports, the academic union went on strike on Monday, February 14, 2022.
