We are, without a doubt, social beings. We are hardwired to connect with others and feel like we belong. Indeed, our desire for social connection is so strong that it can have a physical impact on our bodies. When we lack healthy social connections, we are more likely to experience loneliness, which has been linked to a variety of health issues such as heart disease, Alzheimer's, and even premature death.

The Negative Effects of Loneliness

So, how harmful is loneliness to our health? Loneliness has been linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, and depression, according to research. They are also more susceptible to colds and other infections. In fact, one study discovered that people who felt lonely were three times more likely to die than those who did not feel lonely.

Another study discovered that feelings of loneliness can actually increase inflammation throughout the body, leading to a slew of chronic health issues such as heart disease and arthritis. Another study discovered that lonely people are twice as likely to die in their lifetimes as those with healthy social connections. Loneliness is clearly not something to be taken lightly.

How to Combat Loneliness

If you're feeling lonely, there are things you can do to combat those feelings while also improving your health. Here are a few recommendations:

• Participate in your community. There are numerous ways to accomplish this, such as volunteering for a local charity or joining a book club or sports team. You'll not only be doing good for others, but you'll also be meeting new people and developing relationships, which can help alleviate feelings of loneliness.

• Spend time with your friends and family. Even if you don't live nearby, make an effort to communicate with your loved ones via phone calls, texts, emails, or video chats. Make regular phone calls or coffee dates so you have something to look forward to every week.

• Schedule time for activities that you enjoy. Doing things that make you happy will help you reduce stress and anxiety, both of which can exacerbate feelings of loneliness. Find an activity that brings you joy and makes time for it every day or week, whether it's reading, hiking, painting, or listening to music.

It is critical to maintain healthy social connections because they play an important role in our overall health and well-being. If you are feeling lonely, reach out to friends or loved ones or become involved in your community. Taking these simple steps can help reduce feelings of loneliness while also improving your physical and mental health.

Health insurance is an important part of maintaining physical health, but it can also help with mental health. For example, if your health insurance plan covers mental health services, you may be able to get help for feelings of loneliness. If you no get money, hide your face.
It's not that many Nigerians don't want to be social, but as money no dey nko?

Even money for transport to the 'local charity' is not available.

And even if one gets there, one will be thinking of how to divert charity goods to personal use due to Sapa.

Nigerians are very social, no cap. But withdraw when there's no money to avoid embarrassment and see finish.
