I remember a time not too long ago when I was so excited to have won a book called "Chike and the River" for coming first in class. I read the book in 3 days and could do nothing else. I was in primary three. School was fun a few years ago. Government schools were interesting as we had students from different social backgrounds, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Some of my best friends are of a different tribe and religion and we respect and tolerate each other.

Fast forward to today and over one million people fail JAMB shocked shocked shocked shocked. Students hate to read but want to pass. Some politicians are legally looting whilst young Nigerians are left helpless. There is some sort of collective amnesia where we deny all our problems. Everything is solved by "God will help us, Amen".  Very convenient as it takes away "critical thinking" and accountability as we wait for solutions to come from above. Religious entrepreneurs are capitalizing on this and so are our opinion leaders.

Education used to be fun. The thrill of knowing, discovering, learning and re learning it was interesting. This generation is missing plenty whilst Government and stakeholders including parents are paying more school fees and getting less results. I have heard students in many private schools who speak poorly. Nigerian youths will be excluded from the 21st century if they lack knowledge oh. Twitter, Facebook, Google are products of critical thinking and ideas not the joke we think they are.

Who will bail the young? Anyone?

A bitter pill to swallow. I agree with you anyways and it is a problem everywhere the Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian led generation. It hard to think about where we are going, if things remain as they are or maybe a new equilibrium will be reached? lipsrsealed
