I must be sincere, till today, I still don't know the difference between this two fish physically.

By taste, I know the one is sweeter and very tasty expecially when you boil, then other doesn't taste so nice like that. So is there truly a fake and original? How do I identify original one?

Picture (B) is the Original.

Why because... - It has wavy line pattern unlike Kampala with dotted lines. - Original Mackerel is not as big as Kampala. - It has an elongated mouth and its head is a lot smaller than that of Kampala. - The belly of original Mackerel is very clearness white and shiny while Kampala has pale dots on its belly.

use your finger to rub the body, if you notice oil! That's the sweet one, the other one have nothing like oil in it
Re: Mackerel: How Do I Identify Original From This Fish? by OceanRed(m): 5:32pm On Oct 19, 2022
Both of the fish are mackerel, there is nothing like fake or original between them. they are both species of pelagic fish there are over half a
dozen type of it. However they may taste differently when fresh or after being refrigerated as a result of their fatty oil contents, due to prolonged refrigeration they may loose their good taste.
A fresh one will taste better , you can identify it by doing the following;
The gills should look blood red, not dark red
skin should be bright and of good colour
After pressing the skin, it should come back to its own shape without leaving an imprint of the fingers
The eyes should look crystal clear not cloudy or sunken
Most importantly the skin should be white , especially the side area to the underbelly area, it shouldn't look dark or overly greyish
Lastly the Atlantic slender mackerel taste better because of their temperate habitat.

The sweet type or the "original" as you claim always looks shinny like it's coated with groundnut oil so from this your pics, I think A should be it.

Smell, taste. One thing I've learnt is that if it's not original, it can never be original. I can't even swallow any scumbia that's not original.

The original is usually smaller and bluer. But sometimes when it's iced for long , it may lose the taste and even the oil and smell won't be there

I hardly see fake when I was in west but in south south here, it's very hard o
