Good move. Nigeria must do this next.
African countries can't be training medical and health practitioners for 1/50 the cost of the UK. Only for the same beneficiaries to leave the system and be of use to a society that did not train them.
Insult me all you can but when you or a loved one is having a medical issue and you are stuck with an auxiliary nurse and you have to be on a 3hour queue because there are few doctors on standby, then your eye will clear. Unfortunately, you will blame Buhari or the next president.
then they should pay them like senators

You have reasoned in light but it will be good for the FG to improve the working conditions o health workers in Nigeria before enacting such desperate measures.

In Southern Africa, the Zimbabwean government has reportedly stopped issuing clearance letters to nurses in a bid to prevent them from leaving the country for greener pastures.

This follows #massresignations that have hit #Zimbabwe’s public hospitals as health professionals migrate abroad for better salaries and working conditions.

Earlier this year, the government doubled application fees for nurses' confirmation letters and certificates from US$ 300.
Official figures show that last year alone, Zimbabwe lost 1800 professionals, mainly to Britain.

Robert Chiduku, the Zimbabwe Professional Nurses Union President, joined us to unpack this latest development. #ZimbabweanNurses - News Central TV

Why not increase salaries instead of blocking them

You are a fool.

An entry level MBBS doing residency earns 2.5m a year in Nigeria while same earns 53m in u.k.

Miserable bastard.

Let everybody migrate to wherever they want, eventually wealth would be redistributed and there would be a balance.

We have a lot of under utilised man power in Africa. Let these ones go fill up available spaces outside giving chance and freeing up space inside for teaming population to fill.

Eventually, Africans are competitive anywhere on surface of planet earth. It's Win Win for all , I don't see a challenge here.

Why are u talking as if they were trained for free, their parents paid fees for them to become doctors/nurses, so don't expect them not to travel to a better environment that pays

Moreover, if u cannot stop the children of politicians from schooling abroad u have no right to stop doctors/nurses from migrating abroad for greener pasture

When we told our leaders to deliver good governance they refused. Nigeria can no longer pay workers. Convert your salary to dollars you will know that you are running on empty tank. The world have left us behind. We cannot compete with any reasonable country in the world. Buhari should continue to show Igbos pepper while Nigeria go down the drain.

Pls stop thinking upside down. Why didn't buhari use the money he used for medical trip abroad to pay nigerian doctors. He took nigerian money to go pay exorbitant fees to doctors in the UK and you say doctors shouldn't migrate. Did buhari and Tinubu not know that nigeria has trained medical practitioners before they travel abroad to splash our resources on those the country didn't train?

The Zimbabwean government should do anything possible to stop those nurses from leaving the country because we South Africans are tired of the Zimbabwean illegal migrants coming to SA illegaly to seek medical treatment and refusing to pay afterwards.

They break the law, but still want to receive free treatment.

Why do we like to side with illegality? Nigeria is a signatory to the International Labor Organisation.

Labour as a factor of production is required to move. If you stop Labour from moving freely it becomes outright slavery.

And you think you can get the best from same professionals that have no desire of being at that duty post?

Nigeria needs to turn this to opportunity. Nigeria has a young population. Invest heavily on health care by extension medical schools and train as many health care professionals then we can export health professionals and earn taxes and foreign exchange by negotiating their working conditions abroad. Fidel Castro did it. Till date Cuba still export doctors.

The solution is to develop a better welfare package for the working class. The working class cannot be suffering all the time while they watch the political class live in stupendous affluence that they do not work for and expect them to not japa to a place where they are promised a better renumeration and working conditions. We have to do better and be competitive as a govt and people. The Internet revolution has casted our political class. No hiding place anymore.

Foolish nurses, want to Japa to go and work as slaves in the white man land.

I Spit on Africans that are running away from their country, instead of staying to develop it.

If the ancestors of the white man ran away from their land, would their country be as developed as it is today.

Instead of running away because things are difficult in your country, stay and fight for the betterment of your country.

Do you even know the meaning of stealing?

Skilled workers legitimately seeking better lives for themselves is now your own definition of stealing?

Are they your slaves?

Everyday, it becomes clear to me that the first set of slave owners were black Africans.

Disgusting sense of entitlement.
