Nigerians have perfected the art of "suffering and smiling". We have made this a part and parcel of our culture and we don't seem to seemhow ridiculous we look with it to outsiders. We even brag about it and wear it like a badge of honor. Some will even get upset with you when you complain of such deplorable situations. They will be like "after all, I'm suffering too but I'm not wailing like you"! This attitude helps to make solutions to basic problems intractable!

Just take a look at this situation. The whole country is getting flooded. The president is marooned at the presidential Villa, totally removed from realities. Principal officers who collect monthly wages to confront situations like this are busy gallivanting around while people are dying. Essentially, no one is diligently tackling the problem and instead of rising up against this grand dereliction of duty, Nigerians will find ways to enjoy themselves on top of their pain! Isn't that unbelievable?
