North Korea launched an intercontinental missile tonight and the estimates are that the launch ended in failure. The missile, apparently the Wasong-17, flew a distance of 760 km and reached an altitude of 1,920 km at a speed of Mach 15, but security officials estimate that after the separation of the second stage, the missile did not complete the planned route and fell in the Sea of Japan, outside Japan's exclusive economic waters.
