Does Christianity actually help to arrest social vices?

The show of wickedness and fraud persists unabated in spite of the multitude of people that go to church every Sunday.

At the some market places for instance, some Christians there hold religious services and at the close of service they go about exploiting buyers financially.

In the court of law, people swear by the Bible and at the end make false claims to spite justice.

Some Pastors now enrich themselves with the funding from the church and even use part of this money for commercial activities.

We must all learn from the humble and selfless life Jesus lived.

Christianity is not a religion that must be forced down the throat of people rather it's a way of life adopted by faithful individuals.
So you can't expect such a concept to have any impact on the society where most will ignore, reject or outrightly oppose it. But you can see groups of people practicing what they are learning that's why Jesus himself said "by their FRUITS you will know them" {Matthew 7:16} the groups are led by imperfect humans who claims they're Jesus' representatives {Matthew 7:15} so it's by carefully considering the results of their teachings in the way their followers live in the neighbourhood that you can decipher true Christianity.
Since we are all imperfect humans there's no way we can live perfectly under an imperfect setting {1John 5:19} but we can prove obedience to Jesus as we keep away from what is driving many into doing evil: POLITICS!
Politics promotes all kinds of evil deeds so no matter how you try to be a follower of Christ politics will drag you into committing or supporting these things:

Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings. Galatians 5:19-21

This is where true disciples of Christ can be identified in the society because instead of the group of Christians to practice or support these things they will be struggling to put on a New Personality which will yield positive results or as the Bible puts it FRUIT of God's Holy Spirit in their gathering:

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Galatians 5:22-23

This doesn't mean you won't find anyone among them backsliding into doing what is wrong after all we are all imperfect but these are the qualities you will find in the group of true believers everywhere you go! Matthew 5:14-16

I wish you find them in your neighbourhood because it's only those associating with them that Jesus will acknowledge as his friends in the day of judgement! Matthew 7:21-23

May you have PEACE!

It was Christ Who even warned us all that evil would increase if and when He leaves men alone as they did not listen to Him.

It has but the impact is now much less than it used to be as the priority has become more and more misplaced.

Op, two different things. Christians and Christianity.

The Former failed the Latter.

Christianity is supposed to curb social vices with it's teachings and extortion on the other hand, Christians don't listen to Christianity rather they listen to the self appointed Lords in G.Os/Pastors/Shepherds name. What they say is what they follow rather than what God says

It has no single impact. With or without it, Nigerians will still be the way they are.
The religion itself is a joke as its only practiced on Sundays. After Sunday service, everybody goes back to their "sinful" lives.
A religion where one can commit any sort of crime and still be assured to make heaven if they ask for forgiveness. What did you expect?

I don't need to argue with someone like you who thinks that the flood victims across Nigeria deserve the flood because they've not repented. You're mentally ill. And I refuse to argue with a mentally unstable person. cheesy

1. If this person had not studied well and was sure to pass their exams, would this person still not have taken part in it?

2. Say the person has not studied well, if this person was not scared of what will happen if the school finds out, would this person still not have taken part in it?

Christianity in Nigeria is no more than a clutch for people who seek meaning for their existence in a complex and chaotic world. As with other religions, it is just a spiritual placebo -- "the opiate of the masses" as rightly described by Karl Marx. This is very true, especially for people who are mostly dissatisfied with their lives. They use their religion to justify their identity, and to some extent, suppress any tendencies to engage in acts that are deemed to be morally reprehensible.

A problem arises, however, when Christians assume moral superiority over non-believers, due to non-believers being castigated as morally bankrupt by their Holy Bible. Thus, religious intolerance is born -- which in turn breeds divisiveness and sometimes lack of empathy for people who dare to reject God. This is a serious problem, especially when you consider that it is in our nature as humans to compete with others. It's our innate desire to achieve higher status than other individuals.

Yes it has. It has provided us with a big book for us to read and learn from. But the biggest impact Christianity has made is it has vastly improved our capability to communicate with more people than speak our own individual languages.

You try writing on here in your own native language and you'd see how poor your ability to communicate and thereby reason would suddenly become.

P.s. Islam has had similar impact where it is read and understood.
