2023: APGA is PDP's ally, Atiku will win Anambra - Okowa

The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has said his principal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general elections will win majority of the votes cast in Anambra State in the poll.

Describing the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) as a friend of PDP, Okowa said despite the dominance of APGA in the political equation of the state, and influence of the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Mr Peter Obi, who is from Anambra State, PDP would take the lead in the 2023 polls in the state.

APGA's presidential candidate in the poll is a retired Chief Judge of Anambra State, Prof Peter Umeadi.

Okowa, who spoke in Onitsha at the weekend during the 20th Ofala Festival of Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, said Anambra remain the home of PDP.

Represented by the Chairman of United Nigeria Airline, Prof Obiora Okonkwo, who is the leader of the PDP Presidential campaign council in Anambra State, Okowa maintained that Atiku was the unifier, Nigerians would need as president.

He said, "PDP is fully prepared for the campaign. Anambra has always been the home of PDP, and you may wish to check it. In the past, we have won landslide in all the presidential elections, and almost all the time, we have won majority of the national assembly elections, and I do not think this will be different.

"The campaign committee is coming up to Anambra, and we will campaign in every corner of Anambra State, starting from every voter, every polling booth, every ward and every local government.

"I have no doubt that at the end of the day, Anambra people will know that we need to be reconnected to Abuja, and the only wire that will give us that connection to the political grid is PDP."

Speaking on the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra State, Okonkwo described APGA as a friend of PDP.

"APGA had controlled the state in past times when PDP had won 95 percent of the votes in the state, both in the presidential and national assembly election in Anambra State. I think it is going to be the same.

"Anambra people have always voted for the PDP at all times, and I wonder why you feel this time will be different. We are confident that we will win Anambra at the end of the day."

He hailed the Obi of Onitsha for holding a colourful Ofala festival, while also enjoining other monarchs and communities to join in showcasing the rich African culture and tradition to the world.
