NIGERIAN indigenous Shipowners under the aegis of the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) has warned that except the Nigerian Government addresses the lack of capacity confronting indigenous shipping, foreign vessels might dominate freight carriage of crude oil at the $19bn Dangote Refinery when the facility becomes operational by mid 2023. https://tribuneonlineng.com/why-nigerian-shipowners-may-lose-out-from-19bn-dangote-refinery-2/ 2 Likes 1 Share

We want to be active players and not spectators when the Dangote Refinery becomes operational, but without funding, this might not be possible. Release CVFF and create more jobs directly and indirectly 5 Likes 1 Share |

“We are definitely not ready due to a lack of capacity. Indigenous shipowners are struggling to make ends meet. The $350m Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) which is expected to improve capacity for indigenous shipowners is yet to be disbursed. “Government keeps playing politics with the disbursement of the CVFF. Is this how we will continue until the Dangote Refinery becomes operational? Must you guys wait for the govt to borrow you money to get vessels? Allow the foreigners come in if you can't secure loans ,raise the capitals to buy vessels and ships ...we want healthy competition and not when you guys start now,we start hearing CBN going after you to recover the loan or perhaps, you all come together to ground the govt using a strike weapon. Common! Go get funds and get your vessel, let the govt finance other important projects pls. There are foreigners with capital ready to invest in this sector but you guys won't allow. Check my signature and place your order for instant transaction, thanks. 51 Likes 7 Shares |

While I understand their fears, it is not really Dangote's fault here. He is just doing what ought to have been done very long ago. They should be grateful for the years of business opportunities created by corruption that killed local refining. 15 Likes 2 Shares |

Imagine foreign vessels scooping away all the benefits from an investment that is in our country. Most definitely, we don't want this as a nation. A progressive country is a productive one. 3 Likes 3 Shares |

post=117840243:Keep shut Oga. If refineries had been functional all these years, will there be need for unnecessary movement of crude and petroleum products? They should be grateful for the door local corruption created for them to become billionaires. It is time to pray a local refinery grows so big that they can have crude to transport ( export). 12 Likes |
